Don't Care

Hoogie's pov:

"Bye." I wave to my mother and father.

"Bye!" They call back. My mother waves her hand in the air dramatically and my father stares straight ahead, emotionless. Tears were building up in my mothers eyes and my father made a heartfelt sniff.

I turn away from them and climb onto the brand new, white bus. I am going on a trip. To an island in Hawaii. The school is sending the riches and smartest kids to a small island in the Pacific as an award for their wealth and brains.

I fall into the rich category. My father runs a multimillion dollar business and my mother is a model. Their income together is too many numbers for my lazy brain to add up.

Scanning the bus I find an empty seat for myself. I am definitely not sharing a seat with a boring or rude person for thirty minutes.

I put in my ear buds and listen to a random song. Of course it turns out to be Don't Go Breaking My Heart by Elton John with Kiki Dee. I press my lips into a thin line. Honestly I really like this song... it's a classic, but this is definitely not the time for a love song. Love is in the furthest corner of my mind at the moment. I had a really tough breakup with a woman before this trip and I was running away from the situation by sitting in this bus that will soon continuously glide to the air port.

Another love song comes on and a groan, so I press the skip button. A better song starts playing and a small smile teases the edges of my lips. I start out the window and watch my other fellow rich people and smart people say goodbye to their parents and climb on the buss.

I never really talk to any of these people. There are few I commute with anyway. The bus rumbles with excitement as more people file onto the bus. They hum to each other about Hawaii and what adventures it holds.

I sigh. Then the bus closes it's door and rolls away to our destination. I mentally congratulate myself. I have this seat all to myself.

The thirty minute drive to the air port goes by in a flash and we are all filing onto the plane. I grin. I love flying.

The sad part about the plane ride is that I did not get to sit by myself. The two rows on the plane have three seats each. I was sitting on the right row and the other two seats are occupied by a snotty brunette and an annoying German.

They bicker about who knows what while I stare out the window, ignoring them. Soon enough the plane leaps over the land and dances above the sea. I watch as the sea sways below in a clam rhythm.

After more than a couple of hours, the plane lands. Everyone stumbles out of the plane and goes to retrieve their luggage. I do the same, patiently waiting in the line that formed.

I retrieve my luggage and head to the place where other class members were attending. The chaperone claps his hands to get everyone's attention. "Hello! Please call me Mr. Davenport! We will head to the location of the boat by bus and then we will finally be at our destination. Make sure to get your luggage! Are we missing anyone?" The kids turn to each other and look for familiar faces. I look too, not really knowing who I'm looking for. I spot the snotty brunette and I search for the German.

As I realize he's not here, I raise my hand automatically, not intending for this to happen. It's too late to not say anything now. Mr. Davenport kindly rests his eyes at me and nods for me to go on. "I can't find that annoying German guy." The others burst out laughing. I guess I should of said that differently. Mr. Davenport looks stung. His kindness in his eyes disappears, but the smile on his face stays.
