Logan
Welcome home? Welcome home, that's the best you could come up with. Dumbass.
I shook myself from my thought, "Everyone enjoy the party, I'm going to take a moment to speak with...Akela
in private." She shudders at the sound of her name.
"Be nice to her Lo-Lo." I looked down at Ryan, his tiny face firm, reprimanding me already. He waved at Akela and waddled off to get some cake. I looked up to the wild woman before me, my mate.
I fully understood why the rogue wolf thought she was the Moon. When her wolf appeared, steps as silent as stone, she appeared ethereal. Her claws were curled metal, light bounced off starlight fur, she was made of the Moon who ruled the night. A dark angel come to avenge. No wolf in the world looked as terrifying as that, not me, not anyone.
It was clear she was something else. Tangled glimmering hair, eyebrows that had never been plucked were furrowed in the curling of her lip. Her skin was ice pale, untouched by direct sunlight. Pink, pink lips pulled back over white teeth that were fang like in her obvious distress. At any second looked ready to rid my head from my body or scream in terror, maybe both.
Animal.
And this wild star fresh from the sky was my mate. At first I thought she was a rogue, a chilling fear ran through me for a moment before receeding. A flicker, a connection and then nothingness. Hollow. It wasn't until I touched her that I was flooded with nothing but her. Mates connected emotionally immediately, supposedly as soon as you saw them. But I had to touch her and that was vaguely concerning. Even more concerning was the confusion brimming inside, she had no clue what we were.
I cleared my throat. "Let's go in the house."
She gave a single nod but made no move forward, she would not stand where she couldn't see me. I turned and walked to the house. I glanced over my shoulder to see her following, she moved silently, the mud did not make sound for her. Hopefully she thought attacking me from behind wasn't a good idea with the pack here, I wouldn't have that insurance inside.
I felt like laughing for a second. I never would have imagined worrying about my mate attacking my back.
I opened the door and held it long enough for her to walk through, I could feel her appreciation when the came in. The whole house was like a giant three story log cabin, a stone fire place in the living room was in one large room with the dining room table, a modern stainless steel kitchen, pictures line the walls. As she appraises I feel what she feels, a huge variety of emotions like a bag of multicolored candy. I had no idea it was possible to feel so much at once. All of it springing up and demanding attention. Was this why girls were crazy?
I turned to her and she moved her back to the wall by the red front door. Not in front of the large window, but the space between. Directly behind her back was a picture of me when I was twelve, taken in the winter home. She was staying near the exit, not a good sign. I didn't even know where to start to explain.
"Do you want something to drink, water, kool-aid...?" I trail off awkwardly.
She shakes her head, looking at the beams on the ceiling and still watching me, her muscles still slightly coiled and ready to spring away as soon as things go south. Not good.
I clear my throat again. I try to smother my nerves, I knew she could feel them. "So...you're a lone wolf then?"
She nods slowly. I stay silent for a few moments, unsure of how to proceed. "Not to be rude or anything, but it would really great if you could help me out and explain yourself."
