We went to the living room and stopped at a curtain that covered a room, where she kept private. She looked at me, before she pushed open the curtain and stepped into the room, letting the curtain fall behind her.
I didn't follow her into the room, because this was her room, and it was off limits to me. It had been off limits to me, since forever, so I didn't follow her in it. "Mom," I said, cautiously, not knowing why she wanted me to go in there.
The phone rang, and I sighed with relief, glad of the distraction. "I'll get it," I called out, going towards the phone. I picked it up and answered the phone. "Hello, this is Mary Lane. Speaking?"
"Hello, can I speak to Mary Marie Cl- uh... Lane?" a man asked, on the other end of the phone. He sounded nervous, and I didn't know if he knew who he was talking about. However, his voice sounded familiar to me, like I've heard it before.
"This is she," I replied. "Speaking?"
"Um..." he said, sounding rather nervous. There was a slight cough and rustling of papers.
"To whom am I speaking to?"
"Do you mean like my name?"
"Yes, please." I tried to keep a laugh out of my voice, because he sounded so uncomfortable. I was feeling uncomfortable, because I had this feeling I knew him. I knew this voice, and I might know the person that it belonged to. However, it couldn't be him? Could it? I mean, he had never called me on the phone before. But then again, he was the only person that knows me as a Clause, as well as the Elves.
"Oh," he said, sounding rather nervous. There was some more shuffling of papers, and he cleared his throat. "My name is Chris... uh, err... Wilkes," he stuttered.
"Oh?"
"Yes. That's my name, Chris Wilkes." He sounded rather please with himself for coming up with that name.
"Okay, Mr. Wilkes."
"I would like to ask some questions about you, if you don't mind. It's for a survey."
"Alright, you can." I walked up to my room, holding the phone close to my ear.
"What are you favorite colors?" he asked, as if he knew that I didn't just have one favorite color.
"Red and green."
"Which color do you like the best?"
"I like them the same, since I am a Christmas Baby."
"Oh, so do you like them the same?"
"Yes Sir." I opened the door to my room and looked around at the sky blue walls and then the mural of all the horses that we've had helped on a wall, by the window. A smile flickered on my face when I saw the enlargement of Star's picture in the middle of the pictures.
"Okay then, what day were you born?"
"December 25, 1994." I rolled my eyes, wondering why he was asking dumb questions, if he had all ready knew this stuff.
"Oh, so that is what you mean by being a Christmas Baby," he said, sounding rather amused.
I think the person on the other end of the phone was playing with me, by asking some of these questions. However, I was going to play along, since I did want to be a pain to my father or one of his Elves. A smirk appeared on my face, while I walked towards my desk and sat down.
"Yes, Sir," I replied, going onto my laptop and logging in. I leaned against the seat and waited, wanting to know what other questions he had for me.
