Tiredness

A gentleness washed over the two boys as they had gone home in the past couple of days, both exhausted from the small amount of trauma they faced.

"Hey kiddo, want me to make you something?"

"Um. Actually no I just...were you awake that whole time?"

"Unconsciously, I was. I couldn't say a word."

"You! I should have shaken you awake!!"

A soft chuckle came from the happy tree man as max sat down on the couch, gently petting his stuffed bear. He held him close, smiling happily. The taller man soon sat next to him, slightly less happy then before.

"I made you cry didn't I?" He said after a long pause of silence.

"I was scared, who wouldn't have?" He looked at him for a moment then avoiding his gaze.

He sighed touching his fluffy black hair, trying to keep his composure.

"You called me dad."

Max paused at this, he sighed gently.

"I know."

"Did you?-"

"Yes I meant it. You protected me from my actual psycho father. Who wouldn't be like that in the moment?"

They looked away from each other, feeling the air with thick awkwardness. David was about to leave until max tugged at his arm.

"Don't yet, please." He hid his face, feeling slightly embarrassed.

"Hey were did you get your bear Mr. Honeynuts anyways?"

"...heh.." max gave a small giggle

"What?"

"You made him for me, the first time I came to camp. You thought I hated it when I took it and put it in the trash but after dark I went back to it...it...saved me from fear and anxiety I guess..." max smiled gently.

A chuckle came from David as he then hugged the small boy. Max hugged him back, sleep threatening his eyes.

"Hey max?"

"Hm...?" He gently said, holding his bear closer to his small chest.

"I...I love you..."

A small pause was with the boy as his breath hitched, but it became normal as he leaned against David closing his eyes more.

"I love you too."
