Merlin POV
"Eat your breakfast Merlin. You have a long day ahead of you." said Gaius bringing me back from my thoughts
"Hmm?",
"Merlin are you alright?"
"Yeah I'm fine", I lied. The truth was that I couldn't stop thinking about the princess, how in the world did she know who I was? I hadn't used magic so she hadn't seen me. Did she have magic? Could she sense my magic? I would have to find out, but for now I would have to hope that she kept her word and didn't say anything.
After breakfast I headed for Arthur's chamber. I needed to get him ready. Maybe if I finished my chores early today I would be able to talk to the princess and figure everything out.

As soon as I finished my breakfast I ran out to Arthurs dorm ready to get him dressed. I quickly went through my chores, getting him ready. He asked me if I was alright a few times, and I said that I was only worried about who had threatened King Irelo. He agreed that it must have been a strong enemy to have shaken King Irelo so. I was ready to leave with the (many times used) excuse that I was going to look for some herbs. But Arthur had other plans for me, he needed me to wash all the dirty laundry.
"Im sure the herbs wont spoil if you don't get them right away Merlin." he had told me when I said that getting the herbs was important.
"Right." I gritted my teeth and grabbed the overly filled basket.

I threw the Arthurs dirty shirt in the water and began to scrub. This was only taking more time. I needed to get to the princess, and how much cloths does Arthur have?! I've never seen so much! I need more soap.
I turned around to grab the soap but stopped. Standing there with the soap in her hands was the princess.

Princess Aveline POV
I tried to hold back the laughter. I had been looking for Merlin all day, knowing he would want me to explain. When I found out that he was in here doing laundry I quickly escaped my brothers supervision and ran off to find him. I walked in and couldn't help smiling. All I could hear was Merlin mumbling about finding a princess, wasting time and how much clothes Arthur could own. I didn't want to startle him so I decided to just wait until he was done. I grabbed the soap bar and began to play with it. It was quite..to quite. Merlin had stopped talking? I looked up and bit my lip he was staring at me with a look I cant place.

"My lady" he said sternly
I swallowed hard "Hello Merlin"
He isnt say anything. He just stared intently at me. Was he waiting for me to do the next move? I looked around and realized there was no one here. Good. I need to explain somethings to him, let him know I'm on his side.
"I have a lot of explaining to do." I sat on the table and motion for him to do the same. Slowly, he made his way to the table and sat down, not once taking his eyes off me.
I took a deep breath. "It really all began with a traveler named Lionel. He treated others with a kindness you would not expect from a stranger. But his greatest talent, was magic. He was born with it, and he was very talented, sadly he was forced to hide this part of who he was as a secret. In one of his travels he was wounded, and surely would have died if he had not been found by a girl named Adela. She took care of him and healed him, soon they fell in love. They got married and Lionel forgot his travelings, to settle down with his beloved wife. After a few years that had a daughter...Genevieve. They were very happy, even more so when only 2 years later they have another child. This time it is a boy, Lyell. They were both very much like their parent, full of kindness, but Lyell, he was special. Like his father he was born with magic. Genevieve dreamt of being a physician, while Lyell wished to one day be a brave knight. One day without his parents knowledge, Lyell left his home to watch a tournament. He was so excited watching all the knights duel, he forgot to hide his magic. He was caught and burned to the stake... When his family found out, it was to over whelming. Lionel died one year later out of pure heart break. Adela and Genevieve continued their lives as normal as they could, always filled with grief. Genevieve met the king, a man who seemed deeper in depression than she was, so Genevieve took it upon herself to help him. In the end she did, and they in love. But they couldn't be together, so when she found out she was pregnant she was sad instead of over joyed. She didn't know what kind of life awaited her child, and she feared for all the possibilities. She fell sick and died the day the babies were born. Only being able to name them and kiss then good bye. Daren and Aveline. As Adela watched her daughter die, she knew the king would be on her door step, claiming the children. But she couldn't let go of them, they were the only ones left in her family. They were everything she had left. She was right of course soon enough the king was in her house demanding to see Genevieve and the baby. Adela told him that Genevieve had died soon after the birth, but she hid the fact that there were two babies. She had hidden both babies, but the king quickly found Daren, and since he didn't know of Avelines exsistance left with only one of his children. It was good that he took Daren, and not Aveline, for she was just like her grandfather and uncle. She was born with magic. For a long time I grew up fearing death. That I would meet the same end my poor uncle did, just because I was different. But every night, when my grandmother would tuck me in, she would tell me of the great Emrys and the brave King that would save us. Emrys the powerful magician, who would see to it, that his people were treated fairly one day. She told me of the kingdom that they would create, where everything was finally good. And that was the only way I could sleep."
There was a long silence. I began to fear if my words hadn't made sense. Or if they meant nothing to him. Should I explain it in an other way? That I am not an enemy? that I wish to help him? That he is my hero?
Finally Merlin spoke "How did you know that it was me?"
I almost choked on my own saliva "How could I not! Your magic is so strong, and pure. I had never felt anything like. That's my main gift, I sense magic within people."
Merlin took a few minutes. He was obviously processing this. I knew that there was a lot to understand...but I really wish he would talk, that way I wouldn't be so nervous.
Finally he did. "Arthur is the king from the stories. One day those dreams will be real. I promise. Its my destiny."
I smiled "I know."
"But you must promise me that you won't let anyone know who I am, and of my magic. If anyone found out, I wouldn't be able to help Arthur create that future anymore."
I nodded "I understand, and I promise I will keep this secret with my life. Emrys."
And for the first time Merlin smiled back. I knew without another word needed, that we were friends. That our lives were now intertwined. And that it was my job to help him. It was my destiny.
