Tris POV.

I wanna get out of here.

This place is a nightmare.

Caleb had wrapped my back and now I was waiting patiently and uncomfortably in an auditorium chair. My body stiff.

I really wanted to leave. Be free with the Dauntless and live life to the fullest.

With no belts.

No beatings.

And no Marcus.

"Welcome Factions!" Marcus began.

"We gather to see our children move onto a new life."

I zoned his introduction out. He didn't deserve my attention. Never has, never will.

"We will now start."

I closed my eyes and listened to every name be called, and the faction the person chose.

"Cathy, Amity!"

"John, Abnegation!"

"Stephanie, Candor!"

This was going on forever. I wanted it to end. To be free of this hell hole.

"Caleb Prior."

Caleb walked to the front and slid the small knife across his pom.

He held his hand over the empty bowl of water. His blood dripped into it and that was it.

He was Erudite.

"Caleb Prior, Erudite!"

Marcus looked shocked, not mad, just shocked.

His perfect Abnegation roll model just left, for Erudite, the Faction that Abnegation get along the least with.

"Beatrice Prior."

I stood, holding my breathe so I wouldn't wince.

I walked to the front slowly. Pain shooting threw me with every step.

I grabbed the knife and pulled it across my hand.

It didn't hurt, I've had worse.

I look at the burning coals the represented Dauntless.

I reached my hand out and my blood sizzled on the hot coals.

"Beatrice Prior!" Marcus called.

His face was creased between his eyebrows, the way they do when he's mad.

"Dauntless."

I walked over to the cheering group of people and was given packs on the back and high fives, which all hurt like hell.

I turned around to see Marcus looking at me angrily.

I smiled and waved.

I was free at last.
