"Love yourself first and everything falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world."

Lucille Ball

Conner's Viewpoint:

The silence that filled the room. I looked over at Jamie. He was asleep on the bed. He didn't know what was going on with his mama. When I was told that Missy broke out of the hospital and was on the run with no one knowing where the hell she was, I had to hold it together until Jamie was asleep. I was sitting in one of the chairs that we were provided with at the hotel room just watching over our son as he slept.

I knew that there was a reason that Missy did what she did, but she wouldn't have done anything stupid unless it was going to put her life on the line. She knew better than to just leave me out of most things. The only thing that she would leave me out of was her work. I knew that she couldn't share government secrets, but would do anything to protect out son who was our first priority in our lives.

So with Missy on the run with no communication as to where she could be or where she is heading, I hate to assume the worst, but I knew that there was something that she was holding back.

The first call that I made was to Maggie. She answered the phone call on the first ring.

"Maggie," I said quietly as I stood up to go over to the bathroom and shut the door behind me.

"Connor, I'm kind of in the middle of something," Maggie said.

"Hey, I'm sorry to have bothered you. But it's something that is important to me," I said.

"You're wondering if I heard from Missy, aren't you?" She asked.

"Yeah," I said quietly, "It's just I know that Jamie is going to want to see her in the morning and I don't want to have to worry him."

"I get it, trust me, I do. It's just...." Maggie started to say as there was soon another voice in the background.

"Is that?" I asked.

"Yes, it is. Let me just get her to rest for the night. I'll have her call you in the morning. But I can tell you right now, she is safe and healthy and we are staying somewhere safe. She just needs to recover from what happened tonight before she sees other people," Maggie said.

"Is there anyway that I can talk to her tonight?" I asked.

I could hear the hesitation in her voice as she said, "I don't think that is a good idea, Connor. It took everything in me to convince her to let me stay the night here with her and to also give up where she is at."

I nodded as I said, "Okay. Just tell her to call me when she is ready to talk. Jamie is starting to miss her so I don't want to disappoint him."

"I know...I know. I hate disappointing him too, but I know that Missy is just trying to protect him and even with her protecting him comes with a price. That price could even cost her both of their lives," Maggie said.

I knew that life with Missy was too daunting to be able to fully stay with her. She always had to be on the run in order to save her life. Even that came with risks. Even having our son came with risks. She had to make sure that he was always safe regardless if she was able to live another day or not.

"Mags...just make sure that she is still breathing if anything happens to her?" I replied.

"You know that I would, Connor," Maggie said.

I just sat there in silence on the phone, just looking at the son that Missy and I created, sleeping so peacefully. I wish that he didn't have to worry about his mama. But there weren't very many options for that right now.

"Connor, are you going to be okay tonight?" Maggie asked, breaking the silence like it was ice.

"I'm trying. It's just Jamie that I am worried about," I said quietly.

''He is a strong little boy like his mama. He's going to be okay, you know?" Maggie replied.

"I just don't want him to lose his mama at the age that he is at right now. There are so many things that he needs to experience with her that I cannot give to him like she can," I said as I started to feel tears to fall down my face.

"I know...I know....I think that Missy knows too, but just doesn't want to face it just yet. Not when there are still so many unknowns in this whole entire thing," Maggie said.

I could hear the sadness in her voice as I heard Missy in the background just moving about. I closed my eyes in hopes that I could potentially wake up from the nightmare that we were all thrown into over the past few days. No one deserves to be tortured or nearly murdered for no obvious reason. No one should hide away in fear of retaliation from the attempted murderer.

Missy was just simply looking for a peaceful life to enjoy with the ones that she loved. She worked long and hard for that life only for it to snatched away every time that she was able to get out of WITSEC. I was there for only part of her time in WITSEC and she was able to tell me her real name when I met her for the first time. She was visiting Maggie at the time in the hospital and I had to ask Maggie a question when I overheard their conversation.

I knew from that day forward until the end of our relationship and when we started our co-parenting relationship that her first priority was to always protect the ones that she loved. She wanted to keep so much of her life private and I understood why.

"I'm going to have to let you go, Connor. I feel like Missy is starting to get suspicious and I need to force her to go to bed. But I'll let her know tomorrow that you called and that you want to be able to talk to her. Is that okay?" Maggie said.

"Yeah, yeah, that's fine. Just make sure that you get some sleep too, Mags," I replied.

Maggie then said goodbye before hanging up the phone. I soon put my phone down on the bathroom counter and put my head in my hands. I could only pray now that sleep will be able to come swiftly for me and that tomorrow would be a better day.
