AFTER a long and silent train ride for Vera she was now standing next to the train with the view of the magnificent castle in the distance.
She slowly walked after the trio without making any noise.
The other three tried to make some conversation with the girl during the train ride but failed to.
Ron who had sat next to her even offered her some sweets but she declined with a small smile.
After Harry had snapped at her before boarding the train she didn't dare to make her presence too known.

Now the four young wizards and witches were waiting for a carriage to arrive to take them to the castle.
"Are you nervous?"
Vera turned her head towards the ginger boy next to her and shook her head.
"Not really. Just a bit scared of all these new things."
Her voice was soft and silent but Ron was just able to hear her.

"Hey guys."
The four turned to look at a boy with dark hair and a plant in his hand.
Vera stood furthest away from the unknown boy but she could see him just enough.
"Hey Neville."
The boy named Neville looked forward but quickly turned back when he spotted a new face next to Ron.
The shorter girl had a simple black dress on with a red vest while holding tightly onto her bag.
He had never seen her before but he wasn't sure if she was from another house or new. But she couldn't be new, that never happened before.
Neville was rather intrigued by the new girl but he didn't dare say something to her.
Vera felt something breath in her neck and she turned around to see a dark horse like creature with wings.
She looked at it with awe and Harry turned around as well.
He walked forward until he was next to the girl and gazed at the creature with the same expression on his face.
"What is it?"
Vera wanted to reach forward and touch it but was hesitant.
Ron asked from behind her: "What's what?"
Vera turned around in confusion and pointed behind her.
"That thing. What is pulling the carriage?"
Harry nodded in agreement without taking his eyes of the creature.
Hermione spoke up with a hint of confusion in her voice.
"Nothing's pulling the carriage, Harry and Vera. It's pulling itself like always."

Vera whipped her head around back at the 'animal' knowing she wasn't imagining things before looking at the others in front of her.
Her eyes settled on the boy she learned was Neville as she saw him shifting uncomfortable and avoiding to look up at the carriage.
Could he see them too? Her gaze remained at the boy and he even looked back up once but let his gaze quickly drop when his eyes met hers.
She was about to open her mouth and ask the boy about it not caring if he wasn't comfortable with it but a high screech coming from her bag grabbed everyone's attention.
Vera looked around and saw all eyes set on her bag.
Even Harry who stood a bit further away and a girl already seated in the carriage Vera hadn't noticed before stared at her.

She quickly ran towards the carriage and jumped in while the rest followed slowly afterwards.
Vera was seated next to the unfamiliar girl with almost white hair and in front of her was Neville holding tightly onto his plant.
The unknown girl was firstly introduced and most people in the carriage were weirded out by her but Vera smiled softly at the unique character of the girl next to her.

Vera picked up her brown bag and put it on her lap.
She carefully slipped her hand in while everyone around her waited in silence for the reveal of the source that made the inhumane sound.
"Come on, Rex. Don't be shy."

Ron glanced at Hermione from the corners of his eyes trying to see if she found this as weird as him.
He shifted uncomfortably on the bench.
Harry just sat in silence while waiting for Vera's hand to retract from her bag.
Luna and Neville were rather interested in the mystery of what was in the bag and Vera finally got her hand out of her bag.
She put down her bag and now everyone could see the unknown creature.

Neville could only see the back of the little thing but it looked like a thick twig but with little arms and legs.
Luna who sat next Vera looked at the small creature while Vera troked its small cheek with her finger.

"What is it?" Luna's soft voice broke the silence and Vera awnsered with a small smile not taking her eyes of her little friend

"What is it?"
Luna's soft voice broke the silence and Vera awnsered with a small smile not taking her eyes of her little friend.
"This is Rex. My dad found him while he was away and brought him back home. We have no idea what he is though."

Ron couldn't take his eyes of Rex as well and spoke his thoughts.
"Rex?"
The tree-like thing started crawling up Vera's arm.
"Yeah, from T-Rex. The dinosaur."
Ron frowned his eyebrows while scratching his head.
"A what?"
Vera looked at everyone in the carriage and her eyes stopped at the boy in front of her.
His eyes were on her as well but he quickly turned away when he saw her looking his direction.
"A dinosaur. You know, from those movies?"

It fell silent again and they were almost at the castle.
Rex had settled himself in the crook of Vera's head while holding himself steady holding onto her ear.
Neville took a quick look at the creature being to interested not to look at it.
Rex stared back at the shy boy and Neville felt himself wanting to look away but the creature waved at him with his small arm.
Neville smiled quickly at Rex and he even managed to find the courage to give a small wave back.

Neville wanted to know more about the thing called Rex but also about the girl but didn't know what he could say so he stayed silent while glancing their way from time to time.

Vera could finally get a clear bview of the castle and her mouth hung open in amazement while her eyes were growing bigger in size.
She breather a small wow not believing the sight in front of her.

"I must be dreaming."

The six of them started to walk inside and not much later Vera had to change into the robes from the school.
After some time she and Hermione were walking towards the great hall while Rex was hidden in Vera's pocket.
He held onto the end of the pocket while looking around at his surroundings.
Vera put her thumb in her pocket and Rex held onto it while looking around bit his big black eyes.
"Hermione?"
The witch turned to Vera with her eyebrows raised.
"I'm not sure I can do this. I mean, I don't even know what to do with this stupid thing." she said while holding her brother's wand with a frown.
Hermione walked towards the girl with a sigh and a small smile on her face.
"You'll be fine, Vera. You might not know much now but I'll help you. I'll even make your homework."
The two girls smiled at each other and Hermione grabbed Vera's hand.
"Let's go inside, shall we?"

Vera nodded and the two walked forward and when the massive doors to the great hall opened Vera felt a little bit more confident with her first friend on her side.
