0.6 |a new friend?|

NEVILLE stepped aside as Vera entered Gryffindor's common room with a relieved smile.
Not only could she finally get into her own bed but the common room was empty so she didn't have to deal with more of those annoying students that were against Harry.
She turned back around while stroking a sleeping Rex on her shoulder.
"Thank you for letting me in..." she waited for a name and the boy spoke soflty in a slight stuttering way.
"N-neville."
She nodded her head and pressed her lips together.
This could be the first friend she would make all by herself so she took the risk and step forward while sticking out her hand.
"I'm Vera, nice to meet you."
When the thought came to her mind she remembered to smile while the boy in front of her took her hand and shook it, still refusing to look her in the eyes.
"You were also on the carriage with us, right?"
Neville looked up for a second, surprised that she remembered him and nodded.

Vera nodded as well and tried to think of something else to ask while silence took over them.
After a while she sighed, giving up and was ready to leave and get some rest.
"Why were you outside?"
She turned back to look at the boy who asked the question rather unsure.
"Ohw, uhm, I don't know the password."
She scratched her head not knowing what else to do.
The boy infront of her seemed to smile a bit more and look a bit more sure of himself.
"Oh, it's Mimbulus Mimbletonia."

Vera's mouth fell open not understanding a word what Neville had said.
"Why is it so hard? Can't they choose something easy? I'll never remember it!"
She let herself fall onto one of the couches and sighed.
Neville even took a seat in a chair a bit further away from her.
"Don't worry. Normally I was the one sleeping in the corridors because I couldn't remember them."
Vera chuckled and took a look at the boy a few feet away from her.
The shaking of her body woke up Rex and he stretched himself while sitting up.
"What even is a Mimbulus something?"
Neville frowned.
"Don't you have herbology in Romania?"

Vera gulped not knowing what to do and let out an unsure yes.
"I'm just not good at it."
She smiled at the brilliant lie while Rex climbed down her arm.

Neville let his eyes roam at the movements of the little creature in pure fascination.
He wanted to know more about it but didn't really dare to ask about him.
He didn't want to be a bother to the girl.

Silence took over the room for a moment, both of them not knowing what to say.
Vera stood up while picking Rex up gently who had already made a few steps towards Neville.
"Well, I'm heading off to bed. Goodnight Neville. And again, thank you for letting me in."

Neville nodded while quickly looking up and back down again.
Vera walked away with Rex pressed against her shoulder with her hand.
He waved one last time at the boy before letting his arm and head rest on Vera's shoulder.
Neville let out a soft goodnight but Vera was already too far gone to hear it.

After a rather dull morning Vera was currently seated next to Hermione admiring the paper bird flying through the room.
Vera frowned when a rather fat slytherin boy tried to shoot it down with a rock. The 'bird' luckily managed to avoid it and soared gracefully as if nothing had happened.
Vera's gaze slowly followed the flying object with a small smile while Neville, who sat a few tables away from her, couldn't help but let his eyes roam up to her face once in a while.

Soon the paper bird went up in flames, shocking most students in the process.
Vera glared at the lady in pink standing in front of the classroom.

Professor Umbridge started explaining something, which wasn't interesting enough for Vera to listen to, while each student got a book right in front of them on their desks.
Vera and Hermione simultaneously opened theirs and starting looking through them.
Vera's eyes widened a bit seeing all of the complex texts and tried to swallow her nerves down.

Next to her, Hermione raised her hand.
"Professor, there isn't anything about using spells?"
T

he pink woman leaned forward a bit while letting out one of those annoying chuckles.
"Using spells? Well I can't imagine why you would need to use spells in my classroom?"
Vera and Hermione looked at each other almost as if they were communicating that she was out of her mind.

"So we're not using magic?" Ron's confused piped through the classroom.
"You'll be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way."
Harry tried to question this method but was quickly shut down with a statement about students raising their hands in Umbridge's class.
She turned around and started explaining how theory will be enough to let them pass their exams.

"And how's theory gonna stop us for what's out there?"
Vera nodded softly agreeing with Harry about the subject but decided it was better to stay quiet.
"There's nothing out there, dear. Who do you imagine wants to attack children, like yourself?"
Vera rolled her eyes while laying her head in her hands, already having enough of this woman.
"Oh, I dont know, maybe... Lord Voldemort."

A soft gasp escaped the girl's mouth and she turned around to look at Harry while other students filled the current silence with murmurs about the boy's statement.
Umbridge looked less pleased and yet still calm at the moment and started walking forward towards Harry while speaking soft and slowly.
"Let me make this quite plain. You have been told that a certain dark wizard is at large once again. This is a lie."

Vera huffed in anger and couldn't contain herself anymore.
"That is not true!"
She got a nudge in her side from Hermione giving her a look while Umbridge glared her way.
Harry soon started the argument between him and the horrid professor.
"Detention, mister Potter! And for you too, miss Strange, if you keep talking like that."
Vera looked down at her desk not knowing what to do while Harry's defensive voice was still ringing in her ears.
He even mentioned Cedric Diggory's death and the girl closed her eyes hoping he would stop.
"Enough! Enough. See me later, mister Potter. My office."
And as usual Umbrodidge had to finish with an atrocious giggle.

Vera raised her eyes at the woman with an annoyed expression.
This woman was going to cause some trouble.
