"Come on ladybug. It's just one race."
Sky shook her head at her brother. "No Chase. You could get hurt or worse. I don't think this is a good idea."
"Come on sis. Have you ever known me to get hurt while doing something awesome?" Chase asked, pouting his lips and tilting his head as if the puppy dog look would instantly ease Sky's mind.
"I don't want to even think about the times where you almost died in front of my eyes. Let's just go please. These guys look like trouble anyway."
"Look ladybug," Chase came up to Sky and held her by the shoulders to ease her frustration of this stupid race her brother got himself into. "I promise you I won't get hurt. It's just one race around the highway and back. It's an easy three hundred bucks and I will split it with you and take you out on an awesome dinner. That fancy Fratilos you like so much."
Sky rolled her eyes looking at Chase with an exasperated sigh, "You mean Fratinelo's?"
"Yeah that. Just trust me okay? I won't do you wrong."
Sky looked into her brother's pleading eyes and knew she was in trouble. She couldn't say no to him and he knew that. Times like this, Chase always loved adrenaline and danger. He never once said no to a challenge and that scared Sky more than anything. So when they were cruising down the street to get some late night burgers and a monster truck pulled next to their car with the driver daring Chase to race, she knew he would say yes to the challenge. The thought of something happening to him scared Sky half to death but out of all of the challenges Chase went through, he won every race and every challenge.
Hopefully, he proves her wrong and doesn't get hurt. Sky closed her eyes and nodded with another frustrating sigh at her brother, "Fine. One race and that's it. No more or I'm stealing the car away from you."
Chase beamed and smiled brightly nodding. "Deal."
Sky watched as he ran to the car and got in, basically jumping in his seat. He pressed the throttle several times to make the car roar with speed. As the monster truck driver's girlfriend made a wave between the cars as she counted down to one, they were off. Sky watched Chase speed down the highway with dust trailing his path. She kept saying the same, small prayer to herself hoping her brother comes back in one piece.
Chase and the driver raced fast down the highway with cars honking in their wake. She saw the red convertible, that was their mom's car, and watched as it moved ahead of the truck. Chase was driving fast and with full adrenaline and speed on his side. He shifted the gears which caused the car to gain mileage and Sky knew this was an easy win.
With her brother getting close to the finishing spot, in front of her and the driver's girlfriend, the monster truck came up to the car and hit the passenger side. "Chase!"
She saw him jostled in the driver's seat but kept driving as they both made a U turn around the ramp going onto the expressway. The truck driver looked frustrated and hit the passenger's door again with more force that dented and scratched the car. Oh no. Oh God please don't let it end like this.
Chase didn't looked fazed and kept driving with a sinister smile on his face. He was getting closer to the finishing spot and the driver started to make a big gap between them leaning away from their mom's car. Sky felt it coming. She thought of the truck driver making a big crash into Chase where he would flip over. This would damage the car and possibly kill Chase.
She couldn't watch and covered her eyes from the scene. Then, a crash sounded and a lot of cursing following after it as a gush of wind hit her knees. Sky opened her eyes and moved her shaking hands away from her face to see their mom's car parked in front of Sky and the monster truck driver's girlfriend. She looked to see where the crash came from and saw the monster truck hit a pole on the side of the highway with the truck's hood thrown up in front of the windshield. The driver was pounding on the air bag that blew up in his face to put it back into the wheel and screamed a stream of curses as his girlfriend ran to him.
