Sky was jolted awake from a gentle shake on her shoulder. She stretched and looked at the time seeing it was three a.m. and looked to see who shook her. Surprisingly, Sage sat next to her bed looking down at her with a soft smile.
"I need you to come with me. Please."
She reluctantly agreed and got up to put on her socks and shoes. Following Sage to the SUV, she greeted Tony who sat in the driver's seat.
"How you feelin?" He asked.
"Tired. How are you?"
"Just moving along. Nothing to complain here."
Once Sage came into the car, there was an underlying silence between them. It felt so awkward that Sky wished it was yesterday where they shared something special and only had happiness in her heart. She curled up in the seat looking out the window as trees passed in her view.
What did this mean for them? Could it be over? So many questions about their relationship were unanswered and it hurt Sky to even think everything between them ended once they began.
She couldn't think like this. The bipolar medication was in her room untaken and she simply didn't have the energy nor strength to go into her dark place. Instead, she thought of Chase and his beautiful smile which cheered her up a little. Of course, he also kept the secret life he led and died in it so she was back to square one with worries and uncertainties.
Tony finally pulled into a driveway in front of an abandoned building. The wooden door was chipped and rigid, dead leaves, grass and sticks surrounded the front yard, and the windows were boarded up. There was paint that peeled off the building and it looked downright creepy but the foundation looked stable.
The worst thoughts came to Sky believing this is where she would die from being at risk to have Sage's baby. Is this where he disposed the dead bodies? Was Sky next because he believed it was her fault they didn't have protection?
Her heart slammed against her chest as coldness flooded her veins. She looked at Tony for some kind of answers to what was going on.
"What are we doing here?"
Sage got out the car and went to her side opening the door. "You'll see. Thanks Tony."
She hesitantly got out of the car putting her hands in her sleeves to hold herself from the sudden cold air. As Tony drove off, Sky looked at Sage as he looked at her without any expression to show what he was thinking.
"So.." She said, waiting for someone to come out with a hatchet or gun.
Shocking the hell out of her, Sage went to her and grabbed her face and kissed her lips deeply. She melted against him and felt warm again from his sweet endeavor and kissed him back with her arms wrapped around his waist.
It was a sweet, gentle kiss where he softly nipped her lip and pressed his soft lips against hers then kissed her forehead. He then took her hand and walked into the abandoned building unlocking it with a key.
The outside of the building did nothing to cover up the inside where lights lit up the place. It was five stories tall with gray walls, two elevators, wooden stairways and the sound of people working.
The main floor showed people with surgical masks looking through small tubes, moving around, and murmuring to each other while others were packing boxes of what looked like white pouches. Definitely cocaine unless they're doing a bake sale. Tables with small blades, parchment paper, pill bottles, bags of different colored drugs, and various weaponry surrounded the area.
It was real.
It scared the living shit out of Sky knowing she was really in a drug operation. She was hit with the realization like a bucket of ice cold water splashing her.
