I slowly opened my eyes. As I came to the realization of where I was, I started to feel a tingly feeling I only got when someone played with my hair. I looked up and saw a hand come down. Behind the hand was Jakes face. His eyes were focused on my hair. He quickly took a glance at my face. His pupils widened when he realized I was awake, "Oh, I'm sorry. Your hair looked soft and I couldn't help but stroke." He explained removing his hand from my hair.
"Oh please don't." I mumbled, "I quite like it when I have people touching my hair."
"Oh, ok." He said as placed his hand back in my hair.
"May you please tell me how my head ended up on your lap?" I questioned.
"When you fell asleep you kind of collapsed on my lap." He replied with a chuckle.
"I would apologize if I had control over my body while sleeping but since I don't, I don't think it's reasonable I do." I stated.
"I wasn't expecting an apology." Hd said with a smile.
"Yeah, we'll most girls in my case would have apologized in my position, so I just wanted to explain why I'm not apologizing." I replied.
He turned to me with a straight face, "Well, don't you think it would have been easier if you didn't say anything at all."
I raised my head from his lap and said, "Well, if I has said nothing you could have thought that I laid my head down on your lap on purpose."
"Oh so you just assumed that's what I would've thought." He spoke back.
"No, I don't assume. I thought about all the things you might think of if I didn't apologize and thought it would be best if I explained myself so you'd know why I wasn't going to apologize. I didn't do it to sound rude I did it because explaining myself is a habit of mine." I assured him.
He was quite for a minute and then asked a question I really didn't want to hear, "Why?"
"Why is it a habit of mine? " I asked and he nodded his head.
"You seem to have a reason behind everything you do. So, why do you always explain yourself." He asked.
"Because I want people to know the truth of what I'm thinking of." I answered.
"But, you don't seem to be the type of person who cares about what other people think. So why does it matter to you that others should no know the truth about what you think?" He questioned.
I looked at him for a while and replied, "Now that is a question I mustn't answer." He looked at me puzzled and I said, "There are some things about me I want to keep private and I hope you can except that."
He nodded his head and turned away, but I kept on staring at him with creased eyebrows, trying to figure out what he could possibly be thinking about. His eyes were wide opened. He was thinking about something. "What are you thinking about?" I asked gently.
He looked at me confused and then a smirk popped on his face, "Why do you care?" He replied.
I nudged him on his waist with my elbow, "Oww!" He exclaimed, "No, but really, why do you care about what I think about."
"Uhh, I think it's because I want to know what a person like you would think of after he just had a conversation with me." I said.
"Ok, I was thinking about what type of stuff a girl like you wo-"
"Wait, did you say a girl like me? Do you really think out there in the world there's a girl like me?" I questioned with a grin plastered on my face.
"Fine, I was thinking about what type of stuff you would keep personal." He said.
"Oh, well I must tell you then that there's only one thing about my life I keep personal. I basically speak whatever is on my mind and I haven't lied to anyone since first grade. I'm not the person who's insecure. I must also let you know that what I keep personal about my life is something you'll never find out so it's best you don't base your actions on your assumptions." I replied back quickly.
"We'll that cleared everything up." He stated with creased eyebrows.
After, about ten minutes I asked for the time.
"It's almost one o'clock." He replied.
"Well I'm hungry. I'm gonna go to the dining room, wanna join me?" I asked standing up.
"Sure, why not." He replied standing up too. He led the way to the dining room and we looked around for a place to sit. We found an empty place and sat down.
Soon after our food arrived, Jake spoke up, "Are you on a diet?" He asked eying the salad in front of me.
"No, why on earth would I be?" I replied.
"Uhh, I guess it's because you're eating a salad when you could be eating a steak." He answered.
"Did you ever think it could be because I don't like steaks and prefer a salad, or because I want to eat healthy." I stated, "If you want to ask me any questions Jake then, don't ask one from something you assume. Instead of asking 'Are you on a diet?' Don't you think it would have been better to have asked 'Why are you eating a salad.'"
Jake stared at me for a while them asked, "Why are you eating a salad Daffy?" He said slowly and firmly.
"Because, it's the only meal that doesn't contain meat." I replied back.
"You're a vegetarian?" He asked surprised.
"Vegan actually. And I must say that I don't like to talk about it so I'd be very pleased to hear you speak no more of it." I answered politely.
"Sure, whatever you say." He replied, "So how come you're traveling alone?" He asked
"Angela has this cheer thing she has to do and my little sister Rose is too young to travel as my companion." I explained, "So I'm traveling alone. Well now I'm traveling with you."
"Hey, Jake." I said to him, "Why did you throw the football on my head and why did you mess with the things at my house?" I asked curiously while lifting my fork up to my mouth.
"Uhh, yeah I'm really sorry about that it was stupid and wasn't thinking." He apologized as his face started to burn red.
I laughed and then asked him, "Are you blushing?" His face got even redder and I chuckled. "Yes but everyone has a reason for their actions weather they're stupid or smart. So my question to you is what is your reason behind your mischief?" I asked again.
"I don't quite want to talk about it if that's ok with you." He replied with a smile on his face
I snorted and replied, "If that's ok with me? Really? Well actually it just so happens that it isn't ok with me." I said sarcastically.
He looked at me with creased eyebrows than snorted and for some reason I joined him.
