I SLAMMED MY LOCKER DOOR SHUT AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY. You'd think Friday afternoon would make me happy, the start of the weekend right? No. Friday afternoon's make me cranky. I'm tired, I want to nap and I want food.

I hope this afternoons' date includes food. Wait. Was it a date? I wasn't sure. We never clarified.

I had gotten more attention today than I would have liked. I dressed up today, for the date that's maybe not a date.
It was rare for school to see me in something other than sweats or jeans. I think even my teachers raised their eyebrows. Creepy when I think about that.

I didn't go over the top. I wore a summer dress, some sandals and left my hair out in waves. It was more than jeans, a ponytail and sneakers though.

"You ready?" Brendon asks next to me at my locker, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I turn to him, "Oh I'm sorry, I thought I mentioned I didn't need a ride today."

He paused. "You did...I thought you were just joking. I thought your brother has the car today."

"He does, he has practice until tonight and then a party later. I'm just getting a lift with someone else today."

I don't know why, but it felt awkward. Date. Say date my mind said, the words couldn't leave my mouth though.

Brendon pauses yet again. "...A ride with someone else..." He says the statement more like a question.

I internally cringed. "Yes?" Now my statement was sounding like a question.

He looked down at me past his sandy brown hair. "If you're sure you don't need a ride..."

I nodded. My phone began to ring. I looked down.

Calling...
EMERSON

Crap. It was fifteen past, he's probably wondering where I am. Brendon glanced down at my phone and squinted a little.

I felt awkward standing there with my phone ringing and Brendon starring at it. "Okay," I began awkwardly. "See you later!" I rushed, waving at him and running off. Oh god. It had never been awkward with Brendon, why now?

I clicked answer. "Hello?" I said as I opened the school doors.

"Hello, Princess." Mused a deep voice. "Are you okay? Do you need me to get you from schoo—"
