Three days. It's been three days since I signed that paper and Marshall hasn't shown any signs of wanting to marry me! Gumball thought as he watched Marshall strum his bass. His worry may have come from his lover leaving every night and returning the next morning. The king glanced up at him and paused his playing. "Gumball?" He asked, "You okay?" The prince looked up from the strings to his eyes, nodding. "Yes, I'm okay. Just thinking, that's all." Don't you love me as much as I love you? "Okay." Marshall smiled at that, beginning to strum again. The two were eating lunch in the forest under a large tree, though Marshall was still wearing a shade-providing hat for safety measures. Gumball sighed as he rested his head on his lap, looking up at his king. "Where do you go at night." He asked, making Marshall pause again. "It's a secret, Bubba, and I'm going to keep it." Angry now, Gumball pouted and began to whine. "But I'm your boyfriend, I so deserve to know, dickface!" Marshall looked down at him, eyebrows furrowing. "Would you be quiet. You haven't been this mad since the time I ditched our date plans to seduce and screw over Fi." He mumbled. "And even then, I did you after. All in good fun." Gumball rolled his eyes, shoving his boyfriend away. "Fine, go to your secret place. Just know that I hate you, maybe."
Gumball paced the halls, so empty without his king beside him. "I didn't actually think he'd go. What am I, stale gum?" He asked himself, shocked at Marshall's absence.
The nights were lonely without Marshall at his side, and it left him with worry and distress. The window creaked open around two, and the vampire snuck in. "Marshall?" Gumball asked quietly, causing him to jump. "Bubba? You're still awake?" He looked over at him, dropping his bag as he floated over. "Yes, I am, I can't even sleep without you." He mumbled, leaning back as Marshall laid beside him and pulled him into a hug. "Well I'm here now," he said, "and you can sleep. Okay?" Gumball pressed his blushing cheek to his chest with a nod, "Okay." Marshall's cold comforting arms were wrapped around Gumball, pulling him close. He was concerned about the secret, that it would be blown all to quick.
Maybe Gumball would be mad that he was seeing someone else.. but again, maybe he wouldn't.
"How about some brunch tomorrow?" Marshall offered, kissing his head. "You hate the mornings, and breakfast." Gumball said, his large eyebrows raising. Marshall normally slept through the morning, unless a sunbeam caught his arm. Then he just screamed for Gumball. "Yes, but I love you." He said, shrugging. "And you love breakfast."
Gumball nodded after a bit, agreeing... he did love breakfast. "If you're up for it, I guess." He finally replied, smiling.
Gumball tried to fall all sleep as fast as he could, he couldn't wait for the morning. Most nights he simply went to sleep to wake up again and see Marshall... "Goodnight, Bubba." He mumbled, kissing him for a moment.
Marshall didn't sleep that night, just watched his boyfriend sleep. Hours seemed to pass by in seconds as Gumball shifted and snored. Some may have thought it was creepy, but it made Gumball feel safe when he woke up and saw his gentle eyes.
"Morning." He mumbled, looking down at Gumball when his eyes opened slightly. "What.." He murmured, rubbing his eyes as he sat up. "Breakfast?" Marshall reminded him, eyebrow raised. "Oh, yes." Gumball realized this, looking over at his closet. He stood up, and grabbed some clothes. Pulling on a new shirt, he looked over at Marshall who was putting on his protective clothing. "I know this is a major turn-off..." He said after he noticed Gumball looking, sliding the glove up his arm, "But I kind of need it to live." The prince pulled up his skinny pink jeans, the ones he had bought by Marshall's request, and walked over. "It doesn't matter if you look like a total dork, I just care that you're alive." He claimed, kissing him for a moment. His cold lips felt nice and still, after all this time, made his stomach jump. "Mmmalright, if you say so." Marshall grinned, pulling closer and doing up his zipper for him. "Gee, that's new." Gumball said, looking down.
The walk to the small diner was cautious, but the two happily and safely made it. "Here?" Marshall asked, looking up at the diner. "Why not, LSP said it was all the rage, whatever that means." Gumball replied, shrugging as they walked in. They sat in a small booth, waiting for someone to tend to them. The two lovers held hands, Gumball gently stroking Marshall's with his thumb, for the few minutes before a waitress came to them. "Hello, welcome to... Hey, Marshall?" The lollipop girl asked, face brightening. "O-Oh, Lolli!" He stammered, lifting his face to see hers as his hands scrambled away from Gumball's to grab his menu. The prince looked between them, slow and quiet. "I miss teaching you, you should come more often." She smiled at him, them her gaze went to Gumball. "I trust you've been practicing?" Marshall coughed, shaking his head. "Y-Yeah, but I'f rather not talk about that now.. water and two breakfast specials, thanks.." Lolli scribbled on her pad, nodded with a smile, and left to the kitchen. Gumball looked at him now, no expression in his face. The two were silent for a solid three minutes. "Gumball.." He was quiet.. "I can explain this, but.. please.." The prince looked down now, hope growing dim. "I don't know if I can trust you anymore, Marshall. You... you keep pulling all this shit." Marshall looked up at him, his worried expression becoming worse. "Gumball—"
"I need to go. Don't wait up."
