What did I just witness, Cake thought. Fionna had blabbed about how weirdly friendly the two boys acted towards each other, it was always a suspicion. But to think that it was proven, in the flesh she wished she hadn’t witnessed... She morphed her back into a bag and stuffed her viola in it, then ran off towards her treehouse on all fours. Fionna had contact with LSP, and he had contact with everyone... can’t tell her... Cake thought to herself as she ran inside the house, but she had to tell someone. The gossip was itching at the back of her throat, it needed to come out to someone. “Cake, you’re back.” Fionna said, brushing her hair. Keep it cool, Cake thought, according to Fi everything is perfectly fine. “Yeah, girl, but I’ve got to go out again. Lord wanted to meet up with me.” Perfect, she thought, and was out the door again.

“Gumball, I—“ Marshall stuttered as Gumball leapt up and pulled up his boxers and pants, his face was scarlet from embarrassment. “Marshall Lee I’m going to go home now, I-I’m so sorry...” The prince said as he leaned down to kiss his king. Marshall stood up and began to collect Gumball’s things, handing them to him. “Wait, Bubba,” He said, a look of loneliness on his face. “Will I see you again...?”

Gumball looked at him, tears in his eyes. It was the answer he didn’t know. Marshall slowly walked over and embraced him, trying to console him. “We’ll find a way, I promise...” The king said, his body feeling as cold and lifeless as ever.

Monochromicorn is the only one I can tell, Cake thought, the only one I can trust with this information. Lord was Gumball’s best friend, so it was only logical that I tell him. Cake walked towards the kingdom, the guards were still running around franticly. Lord flew down and stopped by her before she could walk any further. “Cake, you’re here. Is the prince well?” He said using morse code. It took me days to memorize how to translate, Cake thought. She nodded, “He’s fine, but I need to talk to you...”

It took over an hour to explain the situation to Lord Monochromicorn, but he seemed to understand once Cake finished. And he seemed to accept it. “It is not my decision who Prince Gumball participates in sexual acts with, nor is it the kingdom’s.” He said walking beside his girlfriend, “It feels good to tell someone, honey.” Cake said, resting one arm around him. And it did, it lifted a weight from her back. “I just worry about him, and Marshall too. The consequences could be terrible if anyone found out.”  There was no doubt that Pepper would command the guards to punish Marshall Lee for ruining Gumball’s innocence and polite affection towards women. And Fionna would have her share of punishing Gumball from taking her boyfriend away from her... it was an endless spiral of unnecessary pain. “Cake,” Lord said, looking over at her, “I believe for the better good of everyone we let the prince deal with this himself. I request that you not tell anyone, including Fionna.” Cake nodded, it was a simple agreement that she had to follow. For the better good of everyone including herself.

Gumball hit his head against his desk multiple times, the pain somehow soothed him. The fact that someone had walked in on him and Marshall having a little fun was tearing him apart. They were so happy, figuring it out together how the two would fix everything, but now there was a wall between them. “A cockblock.” Marshall added as he helped his embarrassed prince pack up and get on his way. That’s just like him, Gumball thought, to bring in perverted humour at a time like this. But that was one of the things he loved about Marshall, how childish he was. “Prince Gumball!” Pepper said, relieved, as he ran into the room. “You mustn’t leave so suddenly again, sir! You worried the whole kingdom with your absence!” Gumball nodded and stared at the wall, not paying any mind to her. Now that he thought of it, it was his first act of disobedience he had ever pursued. “Sir, is there something wrong. You’ve seemed quite down as of late...” Pepper said quietly, walking closer to the prince. Gumball shook his head, not wanting to be bothered. “No, Peppermint Maid, please continue with your daily activities and simply cut me out of them.” He said, grabbing a book and opening it to a random page. “I don’t wish to socialize today, thank you.” The prince began to read, the words meant nothing to him but it was a distraction from life. Pepper bit her lip and looked down, unsure of what to say. “But sir, you have one visitor today.” Gumball looked up from the book and stared at his maid, a look of annoyance and boredom etched across his face. “Who could possibly want to see me at this time, Pepper.” She turned and looked at the door, “Fionna the Human Girl, my prince.”

Fionna walked into the room in her most large-and-in-charge way. Pepper bowed and ran out of the room, leaving just the two of them. “Afternoon, Gumball.” She said, sitting on his bed and facing him. Gumball simply nodded and stood up. She was no concern of his, though it was alarming at first that she decided to come and see him. Fionna watched him, even the slightest movement she caught. “Fionna, if there’s something I can help—“ Gumball said, but she cut him off with the shake of her head. “I didn’t think you and Marshall could become such good... friends... so fast.” She said, in her most boring tone, putting emphasis on the word ‘friends’. Silence crept in, and sat. The human girl didn’t seem like she had anywhere to go. “What do you want from me, Fionna.” Gumball spat, not in the mood to play a guessing game. He wasn’t normally so impatient, but today was not being his best day. The familiar silence took its seat between the two, Fionna simply shook her head and smirked stupidly. “I don’t understand what happened the day you babysat Marshall, and I don’t intend for you to tell me.” She said, looking up and directly into his eyes. Her own blue eyes intimidated him, most likely what she hoped for. “But I do intend to find out, because you...” Fionna scrunched her nose and glared at him, “You’ve ruined Marshall.” Gumball dug his nails into the sides of his pants, both anger and fear stirred inside. He felt like launching himself at her as she stood up and walked out like nothing happened, but violence wasn’t going to solve this. Nothing was going to solve this.

Q: Lord Monochromicorn can’t talk! He uses morse code!

A: Yes, I realize that. And I did say that Cake was translating it. Did you really think I would type .... . .-.. .-.. --- --..-- / -.-. .- -.- . .-.-.- for the words “Hello, Cake.”??
