It was November 10th. I’d be leaving in a few days to see my family. I was really excited. It’s been nearly two months since I moved back to London, and I was missing them terribly.

I told the gang about my plan and they said that was fine. They each bought little gifts for me to give to them. It made me happy, because when we were younger, we were literally like family. On birthdays and

holidays, we never forgot about each others’ families. We bought each other things without a second thought.

“Thanks guys. They’ll love this,” I told them as I gathered each of their gifts into a bag.

“No problem. I really wish I could come see them. Tell them I’ll come visit them soon.” Niomi said. She and my mom get along really well.

“I will. And thanks for inviting me for this event again guys. I really appreciate it."

“Aww, don’t sweat it. We’d love to be there with you,” Alfie said, coming over to give me a side hug.

We were all hanging out today. We sat at the park, the cool breeze whistling through the trees. It was a beautiful day out and I’m glad that I got off of work early.

“You know what I could go for right now?” Caspar asked.

“Pizza?” the whole group said in unison before laughing.

“Yes, but I was going to say ice cream,” he chuckled.

“I could go for that too,” I agreed.

               “Same,” Zoe said.

“Okay, I’m going to go get some,” I said, standing off the ground.

               “I’ll come with,” Joe said.

               “Okay.”

Joe and I walked over to one of those ice cream carts that walked around parks. I got a Buttercup popsicle with those bubblegum eyes. I got another one for Zoe, and a Tweet Bird one for Niomi. Joe got two drumstick cones for him and Caspar, a watermelon pop for Marcus, and those lemon lime dots for Alfie.

On our walk back, Joe asked me a question.

               “Can I come with you?”

               “Excuse me?”

“When you go to visit your family, can I come with you?”

I was taken aback from his request. “Oh, uhmm…”

“If you don’t want me to, it’s okay.”

“No, no! Yeah, you can come with if you want.” I said. I wouldn’t mind having him with me.

We got back to our friends and distributed the ice cream.

Everyone was happy with what they got, and everyone except me pulled out a

camera. I assumed they were vlogging.

“Well we just got some ice cream. I wanted some, and all of sudden, so did everyone. Then these two peasants got up and bought us some. So this proves, I am king,” Caspar said into his camera.

I crawled over behind him, hoping I was in the shot. “You know, I’m going to make you pay me back, but with interest,” I said.

“Hey, you’re not even the one who bought mine! Joe did,” Caspar looked at Joe.

“Hey man, nobody calls me a peasant,” Joe responded before biting into his cone.

“Well, guys, I guess I’m not king,” Caspar said into the camera.

I looked around at everyone else. Alfie’s face twisted slightly as the sourness got to him. Marcus got a brain freeze, and Niomi and Zoe were talking about how cute their ice creams were. Even though I was the only one who wasn’t videotaping myself, I didn’t feel out of place. These were my friends, and they wanted me here.

“And here we have a never before seen creature. Its name is Eva Moline. A fine specimen if you ask me,” Joe said, leaning over towards me and videotaping us both.

“Oh shut up,” I laughed, biting a piece of my ice cream off.

“Mm, she’s a feisty one ain’t she?” Joe laughed into the camera before turning it off.
