It was the end of a really long, challenging week. Taylor's behaviour had been all over the place but after the incident at school where she walked out, Taylor had been trying her best to improve the way she acted. She had also been trying to get along with Rick for both Drew's sake, as theirs.
It was Saturday morning. Rick and Taylor had been alone the previous night as Drew was at work. During that time, they had spoken a little and had even arranged for them to go out with the whole night shift gang for breakfast. Just after 8am they arrived at the hospital to meet Drew and the others. They had to wait for everyone to finish and one by one, everyone started coming into the break room. Taylor and Rick had been mingling with everyone as they waited for Drew - the last person to finish with his patient - to arrive. Once he had, everyone grabbed their stuff and decided on a place to eat before they all got ready to leave.
"Actually guys, can I have a minute with Rick? Alone?" Taylor asked, grabbing Rick's arm to stop him as they started walking out of the break room. Everyone agreed and left. Drew looked at Rick and then at Taylor. Taylor gave him a smile, letting him know that nothing bad was about to happen with encouraged him to leave as well.
"I'll be outside" Drew told his daughter and husband. Both RIck and Taylor nodded before he left. Rick leaned against the back of the couch as Taylor mustered up enough courage to start talking.
"I ermm...I just wanted to...ermm...I just wanted to apologise for the way I've acted towards you." Taylor stuttered.
"There's no-" Rick began to say.
"No, there is. You've only been trying to help me and I've been a real bitch. I really am sorry and I want to thank you for everything." Taylor struggled to say, she never was good at things like this.
"For not letting me push you away...so thank you for everything." Taylor finished, as she looked up at Rick.
"And now I'm crying..." Taylor joked, wiping away the stray tear that fell. Rick smiled at the teen who he saw like a daughter.
"You're my husband's daughter, of course I'm always going to help you." Rick explained. Taylor smiled. She walked over to Rick and wrapped her arms tightly around him, taking Rick by surprise. Rick instinctively wrapped his arms around the teen. After a few minutes, they pulled apart, composed themselves and went outside to join Drew.
"Everything alright?" He asked the pair, obviously being able to tell that Taylor had been crying.
"Yeah...everything's great" She answered, glancing up at Rick with a smile. Drew gave Rick a side wards glance, darting his eyes towards Taylor who was a few steps ahead of them now talking with TC as they all headed out to the carpark.
"I'll tell you later." Rick said in a hushed voice.
"Right." Was all Drew said. He smiled and followed his daughter and husband to their truck before they all made their way to the cafe that they had agreed to meet at.
Inside the hospital - An Hour Later
A woman walks through the ambulance bay and into the hospital. She's alone. She walks up to the nurses station and waits for someone to notice her. A nurse walks over to her.
"Can I help you?" The nurse asked kindly.
"I'm looking for Dr Drew Alister. I'm here to take my daughter home."
At the cafe...
Everyone was laughing, joking and having a good time. Taylor had sat herself next to Rick and for the first time, they were having a nice, friendly conversation. Drew was sat listening to them and the others around him when his phone rang. He looked at it before he answered.
"Hello?" By now, Rick had looked up at him.
"What?!" Drew exclaimed, causing everyone to look at him.
