Back at the hospital, Jordan, who is on the phone, and TC, who is filling out paperwork, are stood at the nurse's station. Jordan puts the phone down. "TC, major car accident. Paramedics on scene say they need a doctor. Have at least one critical patient still trapped inside the car." Jordan informed him, having just received the phone call. TC nodded, ran off to grab his jacket and kit bag before he ran to the helicopter.
Ten minutes later he was landing at the scene when he heard a familiar voice shouting. Running over to the car, he saw Scott being pulled out by paramedics.
"Scott?" He asked, kneeling down where they had just placed him on the ground.
"I'm fine!" Scott insisted. "Taylor's hurt." Scott said as he tried to pull the c-collar off.
"Woah! Woah! Wait! Taylor?" TC asked, making sure he heard right. Before Scott could reply, TC was running back to the car where he saw Taylor awkwardly laid inside, still unconscious.
"How is she?" He asked the paramedics, as he crawled into the car next to the teen.
"B/P is dropping and her pulse is weak but fast at 110. SATs are 95." The paramedics explained.
"We need to get her out." TC said, looking at her pupils.
"Her leg is pinned. Firefighters say it will take fifteen minutes to get her out."
"Then start now!" TC shouted, trying to stabilise the teen. He placed a C-collar around her neck and dressed the wound on her head. He placed another IV so he could give her more fluids.
Twenty minutes later, they had freed Taylor from the car and she was lying on a spinal board in the road. TC was working on stabilising her for the flight. He intubated her and stabilised her leg, which was clearly broken, before they loaded her onto the chopper. He had already called Jordan to tell her what had happened and how bad it was. She had told him that she would call and tell Drew and that TC just needed to focus on getting Taylor to San Antonio Hospital as quickly as possible.
Thirty minutes later, they were landing at the hospital. After unloading Taylor, TC rushed her inside.
"This is Taylor Allister, about an hour ago she was involved in a severe RTC. She has severe head and abdominal injuries. B/P is 60/80, Pulse 160, SATS 98 after intubation, crashed once on the way in. We administered one round of epi and she hasn't regained consciousness since the accident." TC said, trying to play it by the book as they were all personally involved.
"We had to wait for her to be extricated from the car. Her right leg was pinned by the seat causing an open fracture." TC listed off as they transferred her over to the other bed.
"Scott's on his way in the back of an ambulance." TC updates them on their colleague. "He was refusing treatment but he was worked up so he couldn't fly." TC told Jordan.
"I got him." Jordan said stepping back. She left the room right as Rick and Drew came running in.
"Is she in there?!" Drew asked frantically, only for Jordan to step in front of him and stop him from going any further.
"She is," she nods, "but she's in critical condition. TC is working on her, okay? Drew, honey, stay out here and let him work." Jordan said, placing her hand on his chest to stop him. Drew nodded his head as he bit his lip fighting back tears. Rick held him tightly as Jordan went outside to meet the incoming ambulance.
Half an hour later, Taylor had had a CT scan and was back in the trauma as TC worked to keep her stable.
"What did the CT show?" Jordan asked, walking in.
"She's got a hematoma around her lower spine, that just needs time to settle but she's also got a bleed on the brain. Neurology have reviewed and they want to operate to relieve the pressure." TC explained, showing Jordan the scan results on the tablet. Jordan sighed.
"She's tough. She'll be alright." Jordan said, as if reassuring herself.
"She's an Allister. Of course she will be." TC agreed.
"TC, neurology are ready for her." Kenny said walking inside.
"Let's get her upstairs." TC said, unlocking the brakes on the bed. TC had already spoken to Drew and Rick about the results and they were out in the hall talking.
"She's going up to surgery now." TC as they wheeled her out into the hall. Drew nodded and leant down to kiss Taylor's forehead before he stepped back and watched as TC wheeled Taylor off down the corridor. As much as he wanted to stay with his daughter he had to speak to the police about the crash and knew that there was nothing he could do for his daughter right now. TC and Kenny wheeled Taylor into the elevator and waited patiently as it started moving.
It was a few hours after surgery. Taylor had been moved up to the ICU and placed in an induced coma in order to reduce the swelling in her brain and spine as well as to let her body rest and recover. Drew hadn't left his daughter's side. Rick had initially been at the hospital to check on Taylor and Scott but he was not back at the station as he was investigating the crash. Scott had stayed clear of the ICU as he didn't want to feel like he was intruding on the father and daughter. He blamed himself for the crash. It was a blur for him still. One minute they were driving along, talking about things and the next, there was a big thud before the car went flying. Scott was currently sat down in the ED as he finally let Jordan stitch up the cut on his head and take a look at his wrist.
"Are you alright?" Jordan asked Scott as he stared off into space.
"Scott?" Jordan asked, pulling off her gloves.
"I didn't see the car Jordan. It just came out of nowhere. I didn't see it." Scott stuttered.
"Hey, it's okay. It was an accident. This wasn't your fault." Jordan reassured him.
"Taylor's up there fighting for her life. I didn't see the car..."
"This wasn't your fault Scott. You didn't everything you could. This wasn't your fault." Jordan reiterated. Scott looked up at him and nodded his head weakly.
"All done. Your wrist isn't broken but you'll be in the brace for a few weeks." Jordan told him, showing him the x-ray. Instead of responding, Scott got up and walked up.
"Scott." Jordan called out.
"I have to see her Jordan." Was all Scott said as he got into the elevator. Jordan sighed and tied away the supplied before she walked out to TC and Molly.
"How's he doing?" Molly asked Jordan.
"Not good...he's blaming himself. If anything happens to her-" Jordan said quietly, but stopped herself before she could even think about what might happen. TC agreed.
"Rick's up there with him right now. Once we've cleared the backlog I was gunna head upstairs." TC explained. Jordan smiled weakly and nodded.
"I'll let you know if I hear anything." Jordan said whilst grabbing another chart.
"Yeah." TC agreed doing the same thing before they went their separate ways.
