Sophie looked into the mirror in her bathroom, a blonde-haired elf looking back at her, wearing a black sweatshirt, jeans, and knee-high black boots, all of which she'd gotten from the Forbidden Cities. Her expression was cold and more than a little bothered. Her eyes were brown with flecks of gold due to her DNA, which was modeled after an alicorn's, unlike every other elf in the world, who all had blue eyes, each person and family
with varying shades."C'mon Sophie, it isn't the end of the world!" her adoptive mother, Edaline, called through the locked bathroom door.
"Speak for yourself!" Sophie called back. "I told you, I don't do dances, parties, or bashes, and you aren't going to change my mind!"
She heard a sigh through the door. "Don't be like that, Sophie. It'll be a great experience!" Edaline pointed out.
Sophie rolled her eyes. In three days, there'd be a Blood Moon Bash, a big party or dance or something under the red moon that occurred on rare occasion- so rare that there had to be a party/dance for it.
"Hey, what's the worst that could happen?" her mother questioned. "You might make new friends, fall in love-"
"None of which I am interested in!" she interrupted.
"Don't be so stubborn. And you should really make some friends-"
"No, Edaline," Sophie cut in again. "I don't need friends. They'll only slow me down. And what if the Neverseen attack?" The Neverseen were a dangerous group of people that were against the Black Swan, the secret organization she was in. The Neverseen were willing to do anything in order to gain total control of the Lost Cities, including hurting and killing people. She had already almost died, like, five times in the one year she'd been there!
"Listen, I know your transition to the Lost Cities hasn't been the easiest, especially with the whole Neverseen and you being the Moonlark thing, but at least try to do something normal?" Edaline pleaded.
Sophie groaned as she leaned against the wall and slid down it.
"How about this- I won't bother you about your social life if you just go to the bash," her mother bargained.
Sophie considered this, but kept quiet.
Another sigh. "Alright, that and three fresh batches of ripplepuffs of your choosing, redeemable at any time," Edaline added.
The secluded elf pursed her lips. "Deal."
She could almost hear her mother smiling. "Great! Let's go shopping for your outfit!"
Sophie scowled. She'd give anything for elves to stop being so obsessive about those kinds of things. Though, tons of elves had started wearing more human-style clothing, so at least it wasn't as bad as it could be. Unfortunately, she still couldn't just wear a shirt and jeans to a dance.

Sophie sat on the edge of the Unity Fountain, head in hands, down in the middle of Atlantis waiting for Edaline, who took up the task of finding the "perfect dress" that she would wear to the Blood Moon Bash. She groaned internally just thinking about it, knowing she'd sold her dignity for ripplepuffs. A loud complaint snapped her out of her self pity.
"Well, great, they struck again!" a voice exclaimed behind her.
She smiled wickedly, glad that she was wearing her hooded black cloak, like most other Offbeats.
The Elvin world was seperated into three general groups. There were the Fames, those at the top of the popularity scale. More rights, more favor, and were treated like royalty, with people always at their heels like puppy dogs. There were the Known, who were the largest group. The Known were somewhere in the middle of the popularity ladder, with decent respect, decent rights, decent amounts of friends, and were pretty much just average.
