Emily's POV
The doctors said he would wake up but he didn't. I never thought I would hate his silence that much. Life without him was not like what I had expected, serene, calm, predictable. It was a havoc, a chaos, a nightmare, a ruin.
Then there was me, feeling like it has already been years when today is just the fourth day after his accident.
Like the last three days, I woke up at exactly 6 am, took a bath, changed into a sundress and made my way to the kitchen to make breakfast for Mrs. Reed who has been with him the whole time. It wasn't necessary, she could have asked her cooks and they would bring her anything but the breakfast is the only excuse I have to visit him every morning so I'll keep doing it until he wakes up.
"You are going to the hospital again?" Dad asked, entering the kitchen.
"Yeah." I said and finished making the scrambled eggs.
I could feel Dad's gaze making holes on my back. "I know what you're wondering." I said.
"Didn't you use to hate him for turning Chloe into a rebel?" Dad's voice was accusing.
"It wasn't his fault. Well it was, but it doesn't matter for now." I took a deep breath. "He is already in so much pain."
"But-"
"Please Dad, let me handle this in my own way." I requested and after staring down at me for too long, he finally sighed and gave in.
Once I reached the hospital, the guard let me in without any investigation this time. I ambled towards the destined floor and turned towards his room. But my heartbeat skyrocketed when I found a crowd around his room. Mrs. Reed was slouched on the desk, hiding her face in her palms while Mr. Reed was pacing to and fro in front of his room.
Forgetting the breakfast bag, I ran towards them. Mrs. Reed stood up when she noticed me and engulfed me in a hug.
"What happened?" I asked when I felt wetness on my shoulder, ignoring the trembling of my legs.
"He opened his eyes. Justin opened his eyes." she said, parting away from me. "Doctors are examining him."
It felt like a huge block of brick has been lifted from my chest and I could finally breathe properly. I couldn't find any words so I sat down on the desk and waited for the doctor to come out. For the next half an hour, I kept trying to distract myself from the issue at hand because it was giving me anxiety. But I failed badly. Nothing could divert my mind from him.
The door to his room opened and the doctor came out. He has an assuring smile on his face. "He is awake now. You can meet him." the doctor said and both Mr and Mrs. Reed rushed inside.
Although a part of me was dying to go inside, I decided to give the family some time and waited outside. It felt like there was a grinder in my stomach and it was constantly running. Playing with the hem of my shirt, I strolled left and right until both of them came outside.
Mrs. Reed was crying and smiling simultaneously while the mayor looked relieved. Like every other time, he walked past me without even acknowledging me while Mrs. Reed reached me and patted my shoulder. "You should go meet him."
I felt emotional all of sudden. Thanking her, I stepped inside the room and closed the door behind me. My eyes landed on his lying figure and I winced. His right arm, both legs and head were covered in bandages and many machines were attached to his body. There was many cuts and bruises on his face and other uncovered parts of his body.
The corners of his lips lifted a little when he noticed me and he tried to speak but it looked like he didn't have power to do so.
"What's... What's the date?" he formed a sentence, trying to look for the calender.
"It's been four years." I didn't know why I decided to tease him. "I have a kid now Justin."
His face contorted into a big frown which only straightened when he realised I was joking. "I.. Um.. Didn't... know.. you.. could.. Joke." he said.
I smiled and then moved towards him to sit down on the chair beside him. "It's been four days." I added, assessing him for any sign of pain.
He sighed and closed his eyes. "I.. want to.. I really.. Tired.." he tried to form a sentence but couldn't.
"He is under sedatives." a nurse appeared behind me out of nowhere. "It will take him some time to adjust."
"Oh." I replied.
"I think you should leave the patient alone for now." she said gently.
Nodding, I stood up and waited for her to leave. Justin's eyes were still closed. Bringing my hands to his cheeks, I caressed it lightly. He opened his eyes immediately and stared at me with an adorable expression on his face. "I'll come to see you again. Take rest." I said and then proceeded to leave.
...
Justin's POV
My stomach felt like an elephant just stepped on me. The sedatives and pain meds were wearing off now and I was staring to feel really shitty. For starters, I was in a hospital, my leg felt like it was broken, my arms were covered in bandage, my jaw was hurting like hell, there was a tornado inside my head and worse, I didn't forget anything that I had done in the past.
Like come on head injury, show some strength. At least make me lose my memory like those shitty TV shows.
I remembered meeting Emily before going to sleep yesterday. She said she would come to see me again. If I didn't feel really tired, I would have never let her go.
My eyes shot open when I heard the sound of door opening. Expecting to find Emily, I scrunched my nose when I found Noah coming inside.
"Geez. At least show some excitement to meet your bestie." he said and sat down beside me. "How are you man?" his voice sounded exhausted and he looked really stressed. I didn't have to think hard to guess the reason, it was all me.
"I thought you were Emily." I blurted out.
"Whipped." he made a strange voice from his mouth.
"Shut up." I tried to slap his hand away but severe pain caused me to wince.
His face turned serious all of sudden. "You really scared her dude. You scared all of us." he told me and I felt guilt surrounding me. "She was here everyday, sitting by your bed for many hours." I smiled despite feeling really bad for all the distress I had caused her.
"I'm sorry." I apologized and a feeble smirk appeared on his face.
"Say that to her." he stood up to leave. "I have told her to come."
I muttered a small thankyou and he contorted his face at the politeness.
________________________
I really want to finish their story as early as possible because I already have three more ideas in mind.
One about Sophia and Noah.
One werewolf/fantasy novel.
And a combined arranged marriage plus boss/secretary story.
I wanted to write about Sophia and Noah first but decided against it because the werewolf one is going to be a big hit, I can feel it. And I might publish that one too.
