Chapter 16

Mikasa POV

I've been in this bunker for more then half an hour, and left to my thoughts. This has given me time to let all the events leading up to now soak in.

Annie's father owned the gang that ruled over half the town and also fights these giant monsters with gear that flys you around. Now Annie is the leader of all of this.

I hold my head in my hands, letting out a sigh. I felt a hand on my shoulder. I lift my head and looked at Bert. He gave a small smile.

The sound of glass breaking echoed in the warehouse. I stood up and ran to the door of the bunker. There was then a pattern of knocks.

Bert stood up and opened the door. Annie was standing there, panting like she was out of breath.

"Annie" I said under my breath. I ran up and gave her a hug. I felt her arms wrap around me and I hugged her tighter.

When I pulled away from the hug, I noticed she had some shards of glass in her face.

"Bert, can you gear up. We need some help out there." Annie said, still trying to catch her breath.

He nodded his head and ran out the door. Annie walked more into the room with a limp. She sat down on a nearby chair and took off the gear.

I slowly started to walk over to her but notice steam coming off her ankle. I stopped dead in my tracks and stared at her with wide eyes.

She must have known I stopped because she looked up at me, then looked at her ankle.

"I guess I have some explaining to do." She said, rubbing the back of her neck.

I sat in a chair close to Annie. I had to sit because of all the information I'm getting at once.

"So let me get this straight. When you were younger, your father injected you with some kind of serum and now you're a titan shifter that can heal yourself." I said, running a hand through my hair.

"Yeah. That's about it." She replied. By now her ankle has healed.

We sat in silence for a couple minutes before Annie spoke.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. I meant to tell you but then everything with my dad had to happen." She said in a sad tone.

I shook my head and stood up. I walked over to her and lifted my hand to moved a strand of hair out of her face, but she flinched. I lowered my hand and frowned a little. She kept her eyes closed while I knelt down in front of her.

I moved a strand of her hair out of her face. She slowly opened her eyes. I cupped her face and gave her a small but passionate kiss.

I pulled away, pressing my forehead onto hers. We sat in silence for a while, just enjoying each other's company.

I wonder if Eren and Armin are Ok? I thought. My eyes suddenly flew open, forcing myself to stand.

"Oh my god. I forgot about Eren and Armin! I need to see if their alright!" I said in a panicked tone.

Annie stood up and ran to the door before stopping.

"I'll bring them here. Unless you want to come with. It'll be a bumpy ride just so you know." She said with an amused smirk at the end.

I nodded and followed her out the door. Annie was outside before I was, when I opened the door Annie wasn't anywhere to be seen. Then a lightening bolt struck the ground and the titan that spawned in that same spot came walking towards me.

I stood frozen, not knowing what to do. The next thing I know I'm being picked up by the titan and it- no, SHE started to run in the direction of Eren's house.

—time skip—

Annie had set me down, as she rose from the nape of the titan and ran down its arm. She walked up and grabbed my hand, moving us farther away from her titan form.

"OH MY GOD, Mikasa get away from that monster!" Eren yelled.

"Make me." I said, crossing my arms. He seemed taken aback, taking one step backwards. Probably expected Annie to say it, not me. "If you want to live then come with us, if not, stay here and get eaten by a titan."

He grumbled, running back into the house. Probably getting Armin. I turned around towards Annie. She had her hands on her knees, taking deep breaths.

"Hey, are you alright." I said, placing a hand on her back.

"Yeah, I'm alright. Just got to catch my breath. Shifting is really tiring." She replied, giving me a small smile.

After Eren came out of the house, Armin behind him, we walked a little bit towards the warehouse so Annie could catch her breath.

Bertholdt suddenly landed in front of us, sweat dripping off his face like a waterfall. His expression didn't hold any fear like it did earlier.

"We did it. Every single titan that entered the city is killed." He said, a hint of joy in his voice.

"Finally. Now I have to do a shit ton of paper work. Great." Annie said, running a hand over her face. I intertwined our fingers, giving her hand a little squeeze.

"We may want to head back soon, at least before the commanders start giving orders." Bertholdt said.

"Yeah, lets go." Annie replied, starting to walk.

I have a feeling this is going to be a long night.

Damn, I think this chapter is longer than I thought it would be. Exams are finally done so hopefully it doesn't take me forever to post a new chapter.
