As we made our way back to the motorhome park, images of Garridan's face when he tried to take me, moved through my mind. As I looked back, I realized there was a desperation in his gaze that frightened me even more. Something told me his need to take me went far beyond having me as a wife. There was something else he hoped to accomplish with marriage to me. If that was true, his determination to take me was even more dangerous. That thought terrified me.  So, I tried to tell myself that I was imagining things. Still, the thought remained stubbornly in my mind.

When we arrived back home, I was forced to stay outside while Sophia, my mother, and Gavriel went in. It made me angry because I knew they were discussing what had happened and what to do about my life and my safety. Yet, I wasn't allowed to have a say in it. I gritted my teeth when I realized that Andre wouldn't be allowed to be part of the discussion either even though he was as affected as much as I was because he would put himself in danger to protect me simply to stay in the favor of his family. It wasn't fair.

Mirella had left to fetch Andre, so I paced back and forth, wondering why they would bring Andre here if he would not be allowed in, either. Tears burned my eyes. This was our lives, not theirs and yet, they had all the control.

"Are you okay?" Andre asked, making me jump because I hadn't realized he arrived.

I turned, my anger fading in an instant. Instead, my mouth dropped open in shock. He walked toward me, a dark expression on his face. His white shirt was unbuttoned, showing his muscled chest and rippling abdomen. He wore jeans that hung low on his hips, and dark work boots covered his feet.

I blinked, closing my mouth. He somehow seemed more dangerous like this. My heart sped up as he came closer. Heat swam in my face, and I had to force air in and out of my lungs.

He stopped in front of me, his beautiful eyes darkening as he studied my face and repeated, "Aurora, are you okay?"

"Yes," I whispered. My throat seemed coated in something thick as my gaze stayed on his face, unable to break away.

He peered into my eyes, stepping even closer. His woodsy male scent surrounded me, swamping my senses. My heart began to pound so hard, I heard it in my ears as I gazed at him.

"You aren't to be alone anymore," he said so abruptly, I blinked, my infatuation turning into anger. He grabbed my cheeks and examined my face before stepping back to look over the rest of my body.

"What?" I asked as the heat cooled. My eyes widened, my hands curling into fists as I stepped back. He was treating me the same way our parents were. How dare he order me around?

"Aurora, you were almost kidnapped," he said, pursing his lips as his nostrils flared because he knew I was going to fight this. His eyes flashed and his face darkened another degree.

"And I got away without your help," I said, narrowing my eyes at the man forced to be my fiancé. His concern seemed false as I was reminded again this wasn't real, "What does it matter to you anyway?"
