I take my usual seat all the way at the back of the class. I am relieved when the bell rings and Ella is nowhere to be seen. I pass up my homework and get ready to take some notes. The hour goes by and the bell rings.

"Don't forget to study for your maths test on Friday " Mr. Davis says. I at least learned his name now. Everybody groans including myself. What's the point of maths? You don't need it in real life. I mean what's the point of finding x? Speaking for myself if I had an x I wouldn't go looking for her. I mentally laugh at my own joke. Oh God no wonder I got no friends.

English is up next, then biology, physical education, lunch, history, and finally French. The rest of my classes are easy A's, maths is a whole different story.

School ends and I make my way back home. No one's home but Lottie.

"Hey sis " her thumbs lightly pats across her phone screen. She glances up and smiles.

"Hey big bro." She beams. She says it overly nicely and that only means she wants something.

"What do you want?" I ask her as I sit down on the black leather couch and pull a pillow onto my lap.

"What makes you think I want something?" She questions. I give her that 'really you can't fool me' look. "Okay okay some friends invited me to a party this Friday night and you know mum won't let me go unless you come. So I was wondering if you come with me " she bats her eyes and pouts.

"Lottie." I exhale. I hate social gatherings especially parties. I mean why go to parties where the music blasts so loud to the point your ears explode and people are dry humping each other.

"Pleeeeaaassseee." She stretches out the word more than she needs to. I let out a groan and I know she won't quit until I give in.

"Fine." I mutter it's better if I go anyway. She's just a fifteen year old girl and has barely started high school, so she needs looking out for. We do go to the same high school but we keep our distance. I mean I'm her older brother and I can't hang out with her just  because I'm a loner.

"Oh thank you Lou. " she squeals and hugs me tight. I know I'll be regretting this later.

It's Friday and it's the day I've been dreading for the longest. I have tried to understand these stupid maths problem for the past two days.

"Okay clear your desks and take out a pencil." Mr Davis says. He passes out the test and I mentally groan. These do not look like the problems in the textbook.

Basically all I know is my name and and the date. Have to try my best at least. I scribble down the work only to erase. This is so hard. I'm halfway through the test which is only fourteen  questions long when the door abruptly opens. Ella has her hair into a messy bun. She has a white tank top and her leather jacket on. Grey skinny jeans and her black boots. Something stands out apart from her busted lip that seems to be fairly healed now. She has a black eye now.

People stare at her and she gives them a menacing glare, the stares immediately turn away. She walks up to Mr Davis's desk picks up a test and slumps down in the empty desk next to mine.

I haven't seen her in the last two days. Maybe her black eye is the reason. I continue to stare until her head shoots up and looks at me.

"What Charming haven't seen a shiner before?" She sneers. She is obviously pissed. I immediately look back down at my paper and try to finish my test. I can hear as she scribbles down her answers quickly. She abruptly stands up and gives the test back to Mr Davis. He gives her a weak smile and she walks out of the class.
