Chapter 5 - The Favour

Nathan sighed as he packed everything. He didn't have much because he always disposed of all his tools after a heist. He packed his and Eliza's clothes and laptop as well as her weapons. Looking out the window, he saw the police arriving so he decided to move their things up to the roof and hide there until they left. It was times like these when he wished he was back in his old life. He was a sharp thief and travelled the world doing amazing heists. Now, he was hiding on the roof of his own apartment building because of Eliza. He wasn't mad at her but wished she would take things more seriously. Otherwise, they wouldn't be in this situation. After a while, it was night so the police left, but secured the scene. He went back down to meet Eliza in the apartment.

"Was anything taken?" Eliza asked.

"No. I packed all our belongings and the furniture was obviously left here. Photographs were probably taken though and our DNA wouldn't show up on any database anyway."

Eliza nodded, "Alright. Let's get out of he-"

Suddenly there was knocking at the apartment door and it opened with a creaking sound. Eliza took her gun out and stood in front of the door while Nathan stood next to the entrance with his blade drawn ready to ambush whoever was coming. 2 figures emerged from the door, but it was hard to see their faces because of the lack of light. Eliza roundhouse kicked the first person which made him groan out in pain. Once he hit the floor, she put her gun to his head. Nathan ambushed the second figure and put his blade to her throat.

"Kai I thought these people were our friends," a voice whispered in the dark.

Eliza's eyes widened, "Nathan turn on the lights,"

"That could alert neighbours that we're here," he responded.

"Just do it," she said and he complied.

Looking down Eliza saw a sheepish face looking up at her.

"Hi there," he said.

"Seriously Kai?" Eliza said finally releasing him.

Frowning in confusion, Nathan let go of the girl he had in his grip and gave Elisa a questioning look.

"He's the one who helped me disappear from R.I.O.T a few years ago," she explained.

"The name's Kai and that's my twin, Kelsi," he said attempting to give Nathan a handshake but was ignored.

Instead, Nathan turned to Eliza.

"Let's go," he said in a monotone voice and headed out the door. ''

The three of them followed him to the parking lot. Nathan loaded all the bags in the car while Eliza got in the driver's seat and motioned the twins to get in the car as well. Nathan entered the front passenger seat and they all drove off.

"So..." Eliza said breaking the silence, "what are the two of you doing here?"

"Well, I'm cashing in the favour," Kai responded.

"I'm being framed," Kelsi added, "for the stabbing of Emmerson Anworth, so we're on the run and need your help."

Eliza and Nathan immediately looked at each other.

"Relax," Kelsi said when she saw their faces, "I didn't actually stab him."

"Yeah, we know, but I did," Eliza said quietly.

"What?" Kelsi said, loudly, which made everyone else cringe.

"Huh. So that's why you needed the new id's," Kai muttered to himself.

"R.I.O.T gave me 7 days to kill Emmerson," Eliza said.

"Do you guys even know what R.I.O.T is?" Nathan asked curiously.

"Of course. They're responsible for almost all the drug-related crimes in SkyRock City. I've helped many desperate people disappear because of them. Including you," he said pointing to Eliza.

"Are you guys close?" Nathan asked which made Kelsi laugh quietly, but no one heard her.

"We're friends I guess," Kai responded.

"I was asking Eliza," he grunted out.

"What he said," Eliza said, nonchalantly.

She could care less about their conversations. The drive continued in silence. Eliza was heading towards the house she lived in before R.I.O.T. took her in. Her parents abandoned her but continued to pay the house bills when she was younger. She made quite a lot of money dealing drugs before she was trained to be an assassin so she could continue paying for the house. As she drove, the memories flowed through her mind.

A young girl was sprinting across the street to avoid the police and didn't see a car approaching. As she braced herself for the impact, it stopped just in time. A tall woman with smoky purple hair got out of the car. She looked elegant but scary with her long tan dress.

"How old are you mon cheri?" the woman, Giselle, asked with a thick French accent.

"8," she responded quietly.

Giselle was shocked. She was quite small for her age.

"Now why are you running?" she asked

"Promise me you won't tell," the girl whispered.

Giselle nodded picking the child up.

"I'm selling this," she said opening her small fist to reveal a plastic bag of drugs.
"Ahh I see," she said

Sirens were heard in the distance which made the small girl tense.

"Now, why don't you come with me?" Giselle asked, "I'll keep you safe. There are many things you need to learn,"

The girl hesitantly nodded which made Giselle smile and put her in the car.

"Do you have a name mon cheri?" She said.

"Vas-y," she told the driver which the girl later learned meant go ahead.

She shrugged shyly in response, "my parents never really called me anything. I haven't seen them in a long time."

"Well, how about I call you, Éloïse. It's quite a common French name."

The girl smiled and hugged Giselle.

...

"Eliza?" Nathan asked, "Are you okay?"

He was worried as she was shaking. He didn't want her to have a panic attack. Eliza immediately took Nathan's hand in hers for comfort and took a deep breath to make her relax.
"Sorry. I was just thinking," she said.

"Do you want me to drive," he asked worriedly.

"No, we're almost there,"

Nathan nodded.

The rest of the ride, Eliza squeezed Nathan's arm when she felt herself thinking of the memories. She was glad she had him.
