Hey guys! Here's another update, thanks so much for reading this far. Please enjoy!☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Gene's POV
"Heeyy! How was your flight, man . . . ?"
"Hmm . . . t'was a long one . . . I'm a bit tired . . . though, but I'm good! And you, my friend . . . ?" I tried to smile, but couldn't!
"I'm fine . . . considering . . . !" Sam's voice trailed significantly, his smile wavering.
I involuntarily inhaled at Sam's hanging statement . . . it somehow confirmed what I was dreading to hear.
Hernan's call came all so blurry and indistinguishable on board the plane, it made me so uneasy and I suspected that something bad happened at the clinic. However, I couldn't just figure out what it was all about.
After some silence, I decided to take the bull by its horns.
"Mel isn't here . . . !" I started, pointed out the obvious.
"Umm . . . yeah!"
Sam knew me, my silence meant that he has my complete attention and I was waiting for him to continue . . . bracing myself for the bad news!
"Yeah! She was still a bit shaky when we left . . . you know! What, with Alexa gone missing . . . and what happened today . . . we thought it best that she stay behind . . . !!!"
My heart began to beat faster! Something happened at the clinic! I knew it!
"Armed men in three cars tried to do us . . . !" He blurted.
I suddenly stopped in my tracks . . . turned my head to look at Sam, I couldn't say a word!
"Yeah . . . !" He reluctantly admitted.
One single word was enough to confirm my fear on top of Sam's emotions that he unsuccessfully hid behind his eyes . . . anxiety, unease . . . a sense of helplessness, I think . . . !
Sam's vivid imagination created a bizarre scenario in my mind as he recounted to me his own version of the attempted ambush in the clinic.
I just had to drop my gaze for a moment. This bit of information has weighed me down like bricks I just stopped breathing!
And even though I've kind of already anticipated something unpalatable, but high-powered weapons and police cars . . . the clinic riddled with bullets just didn't enter my mind! Learning about it just hit me like I got punched in the stomach.
Chills crept down my spine as the realization that things were now escalating quite fast and I am totally clueless as to the why was utterly unacceptable!
Armed men . . . guns! This latest occurence was unprecedented.
I set my shoulders, squarely . . . with a newfound purpose, setting my mind to get to the bottom of things as soon as circumstances allow me some headway . . . I just can't accept things to propel from this point on without pushing back, without so much as a fight!
And . . . I must find Alexa! I must . . . see her, whatever it takes!!!
"Please . . . Alexa, you got to wait . . . just you wait . . . for me, please . . . !!! God, I need to find her . . . !" I whispered . . . helplessly to myself.
My hunch moreover, is telling me that this all ties up with her or . . . with her abduction, one way or another!
"Are you saying something, man . . . ?"
I heard Sam, felt his eyes . . . but I chose to ignore him . . . !
My mind was so much in turmoil, my heart's racing . . . with my emotions just at the brink of explosion, keeping these within seem an impossible feat that I kind of froze for one moment.
