Birdriver spied Hawkflower from the bushes. It was going to be too late. Hawkflower would never get there on time.

But Birdriver would.

She had a way of transport, an ability she was know for. She could use the trees.

Birdriver was exceptionally  good at climbing trees. Every smart cat knew about her ability. Jumping from tree to tree was like flying for a bird. Sleek, fast, and strong, Birdriver began racing from tree to tree, leaping, while stepping smoothly and carefully.

Ashpaw was nearing the camp, but she had pulled her left front leg muscle, got herself a stiff neck, and sprained her ankle, her bones felt weak and her muscles ached. But she had to get to Flamespark. Pulling herself along, she also needed to get to the medicine den. Hawkflower had rushed past her completely ignoring her. She must know that Flamespark was dying.

When Birdriver got to Leafclan camp, Hawkflower was still running to Flamespark. Birdriver had the upper paw. She slipped past Hawkflower and through a bush. She had a perfect position. No-one was with Flamespark, and Birdriver was in the perfect place, therefore, if she leaped toward Flamespark at exactly the right moment,  she could kill him with one slash of her claw.

Now.

Birdriver leaped toward him, claws out. When she landed, Flamespark attempted to leap at her, but he was too weak. They rolled over and Birdriver pinned him down. "Now is time to finish you! You will die alone. As the stupid prophecy said. Hawkflower will enter the den, to see you dead!" Birdriver gave Flamespark an evil smile, coming along with an evil look.

Birdriver clawed at Flamespark's already open wound, making him flinch in pain. Blood was pouring, making Birdriver a dark, greyish, red.

"Never! Never will you mess with MY BROTHER AGAIN!"

Birdriver turned around. It was Hawkflower. She was standing at the entrance of the den, ready to leap right at her.

"ONE MORE STEP TOWARDS MY BROTHER AND I WILL LITERALLY KILL YOU!"

Tears were flooding from Hawkflower's eyes. Birdriver could see them, but Hawkflower was standing her ground. She looks brave, Birdriver thought, but she is just pretending to be, inside, she is just as weak as THE NEXT CAT TO DIE!

Birdriver decided to attack Hawkflower first. "We all die weak." She yowled. "But, you, Hawkflower, you and your family, they LIVE their lives weak! Cats, cats like you, they are all weak and bony, all soft and fluffy. ALL STUPID AND WORTHLESS! Cats like you should go to twolegplace, and be KITTYPETS, where you REALLY BELONG!"

Hawkflower gave Birdriver a smile, the kind of smile that told Birdriver that while she had been busy talking about how stupid Hawkflower was, Hawkflower did something rather clever. Hawkflower had run over to the back of the den, and opened up a tnnel in the wheat surrounding the den, that Ashpaw was at the end of. Behind Ashpaw, was a tall, grey she- cat with blue eyes and black stripes. Minnowfeather.

"You see, in Leafclan, there are very fast runners and tree climbers, and when a certain Ashpaw gets to the camp, she has the ability to tell her great friend Lightningpaw, that Birdriver is to blame for all this, that I need backup, and Minnowfeather would care to fight for her ex- mate." Hawkflower mewed knowingly. "Lightningpaw then ran through the shortcut toward the uncharted territory, which Minnowfeather and her children inhabited. The poor apprentice, then ran back with them, and still insists on fighting you."

More cats appeared. Behind Minnowfeather were her and Flamespark's kits, Flossy, Mossy and Flame. Behind them was Lightningpaw, who was now beside Ashpaw.

Minnowfeather, leading the group of cats, meowed bravely: "Just because I never really loved Flamespark that much as a mate, I am still loving him as a friend. I will not let him think I will let him die without caring. Because Flamespark, I love you still, and i will not give in when fighting for you. I will always be by your side." Minnowfeather smiled at him. Flamespark smiled back, and nodded weakly.

And so the battle began.
