Hawkpaw's eyes glinted in the darkness. The previous night she had fought off Cliffclan's leader, Honeystar. Leaving her with four lives left. Now Hawkpaw felt tired as she lay in the medicine den getting her battle wounds cleaned up.
"Soon, Hawkpaw" The medicine cat, Leafcloud went on. "You will be a responsible warrior."
"How long?" Hawkpaw pleaded like a kit.
"Maybe when you wake up next, maybe when your brother heals."
Suddenly, Hawkpaw remembered Flamespark with a jolt. She stood up, her fur bristling. Only to fall back down again.
"Don't do that hawkpaw!" Leafcloud urged. " You could really damage yourself. It is my job to keep you and your clan safe!"
"But i could do that too! Just let me up!" Hawkpaw, pleading again." I'm sorry, Leafcloud. I just have to see Flamespark."
Leafcloud's voice suddenly softened. There are many chances you can have of meeting Flamespark. But right now he is asleep. You see Hawkpaw, when you are named a warrior, your brother will still be in this den. He has twisted one of his forepaws and will not be fit to be deputy. Or even a warrior anymore. I'm ever so sorry."
Hawkpaw let out a deafening yowl that woke all the injured cats.
"Hawkpaw it is time for your ceremony."
"Let all cats old enough to climb the dunes join us here beneath the highrock for a clan meeting." Whitestar meowed."Today we have a apprentice to be named. Hawkpaw, would you kindly step up for us?"
"I am afraid, Whitestar,"Muttered Leafcloud," that Hawkpaw cannot stand properly until that cut on her leg has healed."
"Then we will carry on the ceremony as we are." Whitestar licked his paws." I, Whitestar, leader of Beachclan call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and i commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Hawkpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect your clan. Even with your life?
"I do."
"Then by the powers of Starclan, i give you your warrior name. Hawkpaw, you will now be known as hawkflower. Starclan admires your bravery and skill."
