Chapter 20- Opening Night

Patrice POV

I smile as we eat our picnic. "Thank you so much I love yo-" I'm cut off by Evans phone ringing. "I'm so sorry It'll be quick." he says. "Hello?" "Yes he's speaking." "No of course!" "Yes I would love that thank you so much." "no thank you thank you! Okay I'll see you tonight." he hangs up, smiles,and looks at me. I give him a questioning look. "Good news! Brett's sick." He says. i laugh. "Okay?" I say smiling. "Yeah! That means I get to go on with you!!!" he says. right it's opening night! "That's amazing! Yay! I mean I would never want to wish someone under illness-" he cuts me off by kissing me. "You're so cute." he says. I pull him back in, smiling into the kiss. "Tonight's going to be amazing!" he says.

Evans POV

We have to be at the school in 30 minutes. I'm super nervous. ice never practiced with Patrice before, just Maya. Which I hate. But there are some parts where we don't need practice😏. I'm really excited since it's my first lead. Patrice comes out of the bathroom. "Ready to run lines?" she says. We go over lines for about 20 minutes before we head to the school." Okay.lets go. " I say as we walk in.

Patrice's POV

I walk to my dressing room that I share with 4 girls, Sarah Anderson (Rizzo) Riley Simmons (frenchy) Alice Wenken (Jen) and Allie Caralon (Marti) They're actually really nice and I've become good friends with them. I walk in the door and they're all talking about something. "Hey Patrice! Did you hear?" Sarah Says, looking quite hilarious with hot rollers in her short hair. Her hair used to be waist length. That's what I call dedication. "Hmm?" I say. "The understudy is going on, not Brett." She says. "Oh I knew that. He told me." I say. "Oh when?" she asked. They don't know I'm dating Evan. We don't really do couple things at rehearsal since I don't have much free time at rehearsal. I guess now is a better time than ever. "Oh we were at the park when he got the call. We were on a date. " I say smiling at the end. All the girls shriek and jump up and down and start chattering all at once. "Woah woah calm down!" I say laughing. "That is so cute! how long have you been dating?" Riley asks me. "A little over a year." I say. "Aww that's so cute since you guys are dating in the show!" Alice says. Then we start getting ready. I put on my makeup and flip out my hair and put it in a half up half down style. Then I put on my first costume, a pink shirt and white denim shorts, since the first scene is during the summer. 5 minutes later it's time for us to go on. The lights go down, the director gives a quick speech and the curtains open and the lights come up. Evan and I do our first scene and it's perfect. It's so amazing getting to do this with him. He says the final line and the curtains close some of the cast comes on with cars and stuff while they sing "Grease Is The Word." I run to change into character shoes and my yellow dress. it takes about 5 minutes. Im so nervous. I continue to do scenes until right before intermission where I sing "Hopelessly Devoted To You." my favorite in the whole show. I begin to sing and I look at Evan throughout most of it. I look at the audience. Then I spot a pair of eyes I wish I hadn't. Brett.

Evans POV

The show is down to the 2nd to last number, "You're the one that I want." it's my personal favorite. Patrice comes onstage in her black clothes and really curly hair. It's really actually hot. It almost affects my singing but I don't get that sidetracked. We finish the last 2 numbers and do the curtain call. 1 down 9 to go. I'll probably get to do the next 2 or 3 performances. The audience gives Patrice and I a standing ovation and it's feels amazing. We go backstage where Archie is waiting for us. "Great job guys! That was awesome!" he's been pretty down lately since the Maya thing. It wasn't exactly the cherry on his sundae when he heard about it while being in the hospital from a spinal surgery. "I wish I could've done the musical." He says. "Hey you can audition for the spring one, maybe they'll do newsies, you'll be a shoe-in for crutchie." I say laughing. Patrice slaps my arm but Archie starts laughing to. "I might just do that." he says.
