Miles woke up to the sound of her phone going off and she groaned, reaching for the nightstand and she winced at the bright light from her screen as she checked it - a text from her best friend:
'Party in twelve hours! Get your ass outta bed!'
'I have literally ten hours before I have to even think about getting ready. Let me sleep, freakshow.'
'Well, yes. But you have one hour before class.'
"SHIT!" Miles exclaimed, jumping out of bed and rushing into the bathroom but she froze in the doorway when she realized something and her eyes narrowed on her phone as it dinged, signaling another text:
'HA! Made you panic, right?'
She could imagine her best friend laughing and just the thought alone was enough to make her roll her eyes.
'How childish - are we back in high school now?'
'Gosh, I hope not. You're definitely in for this party tonight, right?'
'Daniel, when have you ever known me to turn down a party?'
'Good! Because I can't turn up without my wingman.'
'You could have a million wingmen and it wouldn't help you get laid.'
'Hurtful. I might not get your Starbucks on the way to get groceries now, asshole! Or worse - I'll get it without sugar.'
'Oh, that's cold! Leave me alone, I need to get ready.'
'Fine, fine! See you outside your dorm in thirty.'
Miles set her phone on the nightstand before she ran her fingers through her hair and she walked to her bathroom, stripping out of her clothes before getting into the shower. It felt good to know that she didn't have a class that day - all she had to focus on was getting herself groceries like she did every week, and then relax before getting herself ready for the party. There always seemed to be one major party per semester, and judging by the hype Miles had seen all over social media, the party that night seemed to be 'that' party everybody would be talking to until the end of the year.
Once she was done in the shower, she dried her hair and threw on an outfit that she knew would be comfortable, putting on light makeup. She didn't need to dress herself up to simply go to the grocery store with her best friend like she did every week, she was already trying to think of what she was going to wear to the party - it felt like a lifetime since she'd last been to one and even though it wasn't entirely her scene, she would still go to have a good time for a couple of hours before finding an excuse to come home. Parties were more DJ's scene. Miles groaned, answering her phone as it started to ring on the nightstand just as she was about to grab her shoes from by the door.
"Hello?"
"They don't have green tea," DJ said and Miles's eyes widened.
"Excuse me? It's nine-thirty on a Saturday!"
"Something about a wrong delivery - if you want a salmon cappuccino, I can guarantee they can probably whip something up." DJ teased, chuckling as Miles made a sound of pure disgust. "What do you want instead?"
"I'll just take a hot chocolate with whipped cream - but hey, do you know what you're wearing tonight? I don't know how fancy to go." She admitted, holding her phone between her cheek and shoulder.
"Can we discuss that in a few? I'm literally at the front of the line." DJ chuckled and Miles let out a small laugh.
"Sure, I'll see you outside my dorm in five." Miles hung up the phone before pushing her phone into her pocket and she finished putting on her shoes before grabbing her backpack and she walked out of the dorm, locking up before shoving her keys in her other pocket and she sat on the low wall outside of her dorm to wait for DJ.
"Hey, Miles! You going to the party tonight?" One of Miles's dormmates asked as she left the building just behind her. She wasn't a girl Miles was overly familiar with since as everybody had their own bedrooms and bathrooms, just sharing a kitchen - Miles just listened to music through her headphones whenever she cooked or did dishes, so she didn't know her own dormmates too well.
"Yeah, you going?" Miles guessed and the girl nodded her head with a grin.
"It's gonna be the highlight of the semester - my goal is to still be drunk by class on Monday." The girl joked and Miles forced a laugh, nodding her head.
"I guess I'll see you there," Miles said, saying goodbye to the girl before she watched her leave and Miles pulled out her phone, starting to play a game as she waited for DJ to arrive - she knew he wouldn't be long, Starbucks was only a two-minute walk away from her dorm.
