Chapter 32

After they loaded up Miles's car, they all headed to DJ's dorm. It was the first time Kath saw it but it was the same layout and color as Miles's, only his bedroom was covered in posters of video games he liked and he had a huge computer set-up in the corner where his desk was. It all looked super expensive, so Kath let DJ and Miles be in charge of packing that all away - she didn't want to drop anything since as her side still had spasms of pain sometimes, especially when she was carrying something. Kath packed up his things in the living room, Miles doing his kitchen things when they were done with the computer and DJ threw his clothes and personal items in suitcases and storage crates, loading up his car steadily. He ignored his dormmates who all seemed to know what was happening somehow, but he was relieved that they left Kath alone when they were finally done packing. Miles rushed home to drive her car after making sure she had DJ's parents' new address right so she could put it on her phone for the GPS. DJ held Kath's hand as they went to his car and DJ kissed her temple as she saw all the people watching her as they got in.

"Ignore them, baby." He whispered, starting to follow his phone's directions to his parents' new place and he could see Miles's car behind him in the rearview mirror.

"I wish people were this interested in me when I was homeless - I might have been able to afford food." She mumbled and DJ reached over, holding her hand and he kissed the back of it, which made her look over at him.

"You're never gonna have to worry about that again, okay? Ever. You and our little one are always going to be cared for." DJ assured her and Kath cracked a small smile.

"I'll find a job... I don't know where, but I'll... do something. I'll make the thumbnails for your videos!" Kath suggested and DJ chuckled.

"I already have an artist for that, but you'll find something... not anytime soon, though, you're still recovering," DJ warned and Kath sighed.

"Babies are expensive and I don't want to be a freeloader on your parents whilst I'm staying there."

"My parents won't care, Kath... all they'll want is you and their grandchild safe, warm and with a full belly," DJ assured her.

"What about money? I-I can't help put any money towards a house for us and then we have a baby to pay for..." Kath trailed off and DJ smiled, nodding his head.

"Yeah, we do, but I have plenty of savings," DJ said and Kath raised an eyebrow.

"How?"

"For every thousand views I get on my video, I get ten bucks, more if the video is sponsored... and I just hit thirteen million subscribers," DJ said and Kath's eyes widened.

"And you didn't give me any money when we first met, Mister Rich?!" She swatted him, making him burst out laughing and she had a smile on her face. "I'll pay you back someday, I swear." She breathed and DJ leaned over, connecting their lips and she kissed him back softly.

"You don't have to do anything like that, okay? You and this baby are my family... I'd do anything for family... we'll find you a job, we'll think of something... and you paying me back can be... buying something for the baby. How about that?" He said and Kath bit her lip.

"That'll make us even?"

"Definitely," DJ said and Kath nodded her head.

"Then fine, I'll buy something for the baby... maybe I'll go out into the park and draw," Kath said and DJ chuckled.

"I already have something in mind, to be honest - but we'll talk about it later." He said and Kath raised an eyebrow.

"You're just gonna keep me in suspense until then?"

"I just need time to think about how it'll work, but trust me, I'm thinking." He said, kissing her hand again. "How are you feeling? Physically and mentally." He added and Kath bit her lip.

"Mentally, I'm terrified... but physically, my side kinda aches and I'm nauseous but I don't know if that's from nerves or because of the baby, or a mixture of the two." Kath breathed. "I just remembered I'm meeting your brother." She choked out and DJ gave her hand a gentle squeeze.

"It's all gonna be okay, Kathryn... I'm not leaving you there right away and neither is Miles. We're all having dinner together and then when you're tired and ready for bed, we'll leave and you can get settled and have a good night's sleep." DJ said and Kath bit her lip, nodding her head slowly.

"I love you." She breathed.

"I love you too, Kathryn... so much."

DJ and Kath got out of the car, Miles joining them and they were soon interrupted from saying anything by Rommel and Karla stepping out of the house first. Kath's breath hitched in her throat out of nerves as Karla came straight for her.

"Oh, sweetheart..." Karla breathed, pulling Kath in for a tight hug and Kath couldn't help but burst into tears as she hugged her back.

It was the first time a mother had hugged her in her entire life.
