It was a rainy Monday morning in Boston, Massachusetts. Twenty two year old Rudy Tabootie was in the living room of his and Penny's apartment looking at engagement rings online to give to Penny for their 12 year anniversary when they first met in Mr. Wilter's fifth grade class.
He remembered that day as if it was yesterday. Rudy was forced to stay in the classroom during recess to write about what he did over summer vacation after claiming that he was rescuing his best friend Snap from a spider web in ChalkZone.
Penny thought it was an awesome story and thought that Rudy was very creative.
Rudy also took Penny to ChalkZone so she could find her math formula after Reggie Bullnerd erased it. Snap didn't like Penny at first and thought that she was Rudy's girlfriend but Rudy told Snap that she needed help finding her math formula to complete her math equation.
Rudy and Penny decided to move into an apartment after they graduated from Plainville High School but they applied to different colleges to pursue their dream careers. Rudy enrolled in Montserrat College of Art so he could be an art teacher or a famous artist like his favorite artist Vincent Van Gough. Penny enrolled in John D. O' Bryant School of Mathematics and Science so she could be a scientist.
Rudy saw a beautiful emerald cut diamond engagement ring online and decided that it was perfect to give to Penny. He took a picture of the ring on his cellphone, got his raincoat and car keys and started to drive to Kay Jewelers to get the engagement ring.
Rudy made it to the jewelry store and started to browse around near the engagement rings.
A salesman with brown hair and a mustache came up to Rudy and asked him what is he looking for.
"I'm looking for this engagement ring to give to my girlfriend." said Rudy as he took out his cellphone to show the picture of the engagement ring.
"Follow me." said the salesman after looking at the picture.
The engagement rings were in the way back of the store displayed in a huge glass case.
"Is this what you were looking for sir?" asked the salesman.
"Yes it is. Thank you." said Rudy as he took out his wallet to pay for the ring.
The salesman put the engagement ring in the bag and handed it to Rudy.
"Have a nice day." said the salesman as he waved goodbye to Rudy.
"Thank you." said Rudy.
Rudy went back outside into the pouring rain and put the ring in the passenger seat of his car and drove back to the apartment to figure out where to propose to Penny.
Rudy made it back to the apartment and hid the engagement ring in his drawer where he kept his magic chalk.
Rudy's cellphone buzzed and it was a email from his old fifth grade teacher, Mr. Wilter and it said "Hello Rudy how are you? I was wondering if you and Penny would come back to Plainville Elementary School for a career day project I'm doing with my students." Just then it hit Rudy like a ton of bricks. Rudy decided to propose to Penny after doing the Career Day project with Mr. Wilter.
Rudy replied to Mr. Wilter's email in seconds and accepted the invitation. He wrote "Penny and I would be honored to be apart of career day and I'm planning on proposing to Penny in your classroom when we're finished with mentoring your students." then he pressed the send button on his cellphone and waited for a response.
Two seconds later, Mr. Wilter emailed Rudy back and the email said "That's wonderful Rudy! I can't wait to see the look on her face when you get down on one knee."
Rudy emailed back saying "I'm nervous just thinking about it. But I'm sure she'll say yes." he pressed the send button again and started to charge his cellphone.
Penny came in through the front door after a long day from studying at the library for midterms.
"Hey Honey. How was your day?" asked Penny.
"It was good. You wouldn't believe who emailed me." said Rudy.
"Who?" asked Penny.
"Our old fifth grade teacher Mr. Wilter." said Rudy.
"No way. How is he doing?" asked Penny.
"He's good." said Rudy.
"What did he want?" asked Penny.
"He invited us to come back to our old elementary school for career day to show his kids what kind of things we want to do." said Rudy.
"That sounds like fun. I don't have classes because of the midterms coming up in two weeks." said Penny.
"Yeah Career Day is next Monday and if we drive to Plainville tomorrow we'll be able to check into a nice hotel to stay for a couple of nights and be at Plainville Elementary before eight o' clock." said Rudy.
"Sounds like a plan sweetie. We better start packing if we're going to get to Plainville on time." said Penny as she put down her textbooks.
"Yeah you're right. I'll be in my art room packing a few bags for the paper, colored pencils, markers and regular pencils." said Rudy as he kissed Penny on the cheek.
"Ok baby." said Penny.
Rudy got his blue suitcase out of his closet and started putting his art supplies in and his engagement ring in his lucky pencil case to keep it safe until next Monday.
He went into his and Penny's bedroom to pack his good clothes to wear for Career Day.
He put his good clothes, pajamas and toothbrush in his green suitcase.
"I'm all packed." said Rudy.
"Me to." said Penny.
Little did Penny know that she has a big surprise for her after Career Day is over.
