When we arrived at the hospital I was taken straight into a separate room. I was starting to worry now because I was 3 months early. The doctors and midwives seemed uneasy too, which wasn’t helping. One of the midwives came in to talk to me.
‘Hello darling, and what’s your name?’
‘Um, hello, I’m Emili but you already knew that because it tells you at the top of that sheet of paper you are looking at’
‘I know, I’m just trying to keep you talking to take your mind off the pain’
‘Take my mind off the pain?! I have got a small person trying to come out of my vagina. How can my mind be taken off that?!’
Zayn sniggered from the corner of the room. The midwife glared at him and he quickly shut up.
‘Right, Emili. You’ve gone into premature labour which means the baby needs to come out as soon as possible. Because you are early there is a high possibility of there being health problems but it’s hard to say until the baby is out’
‘Health problems? What kind of health problems?’
‘It’s hard to say at this stage but there is a chance of heart problems and in some cases the baby could die’
‘What?’
‘Like I said it’s hard to tell at this stage’
