Socket still bares the guilt from his sister being hurt years ago, he just doesn't seem to be able to get passed it. He wouldn't have joined the Broken Demons if it weren't for what happened, and while Evie now lives a normal life, Socket has yet to...

I knew if I said 'I'm worried about you after being hurt, let me take the day off and take care of you' I would get the door slammed in my face, so I played dirty. If I have to promise her sex so I can watch over her, I guess that's just a sacrifice I have to make. If I had left her home alone I would've worried about her, I could tell the pain was bothering her today, she would laugh and then catch herself.
I'm on my last job of the day and today has been fun, she's been carefree, happy and laughing, plus the sex this afternoon was fucking great. This job has me driving passed her place on the way back
"I'll drop you off and take the truck back, I'll pick up some dinner." I say as I park up outside her house
"No need, I'll make something for us, don't be too long, I might get lonely cooking naked all by myself." She smirks
"Then I'll probably come back with a bunch of speeding tickets." I joke and she laughs. She kisses me before climbing out of the truck and she waves as she walks inside.
I quickly pull up at the clubhouse, unload the car into the garage, and take the keys to the tow truck to Circuits office.
"What you working on?" I ask pointing to his computer screen
"Ice wants me to find the drunk asshole that hurt Natalie and Imelda yesterday." Circuit replies
"You found anything yet?" I ask
"Yeah, he's still in the hospital, but under guard and then the police are taking him straight to lock up." Damn, that'll make him hard to get alone.
"You should see the police report, apparently he was starting fights in the bar so they kicked him out, some one he pissed off must've got him in the alley, but he only had minor injuries and broken ribs. Natalie fractured his eye socket with one punch, but she did it in self defence, so she's not in trouble." Circuit explains. Damn I'm proud of that girl.
"Well if you figure out a way to get to him, let me know, I'd like to get in a few hits myself." I reply and Circuit nods as I head out.
I jump on my motorcycle and ride back to Natalie, as I've done so many times over the last eighteen months. I wish Natalie would let me call her mine, but I guess I can't blame her for not wanting more with me. We have so much fun together, and although She doesn't really talk about herself, we both know exactly how we like it in the bedroom, I know exactly what makes her wet and she knows exactly what I want. But then what kind of boyfriend could I be? I couldn't protect my own sister, never mind a girlfriend. I was all Evie had, I should've gone to pick her up from work when my date ended early. Instead I sat at home pissed I didn't get to fuck some cheerleader and didn't even notice when she didn't come home. Three hours after her shift ended I realised, I tried to call her, but she didn't answer, I drove to the bar, but it was closed and empty. When I got back home there was the cops, helping me into their car so they could blue light me to the hospital in case she didn't make it.
Evie suffered something more horrific than anyone I know has survived, would I let Natalie down if she needed me? What if I did make her mine, we set up a happy family, would I not notice if she was late coming home from work? If Natalie were mine and she got hurt it would kill me to let another girl I love down. So Natalie is right, friends is best.
I park my motorcycle next to Natalie's car and make my way to the front door, she's left it unlocked so I let myself in.
"Really? Well that's great." I hear Natalie's voice from the kitchen, she has her back to me balancing the phone between her ear and shoulder as she cooks
"Yeah, I'm happy for you mom." Huh, she's never talked about her mom, I wasn't even sure she had any family, she only ever talks about Imelda and calls Isla her niece.
"Uh Huh... Yeah..... uh huh." She nods as she moves to the refrigerator and pulls out a bottle of wine, pulling the cork and sipping straight from the bottle. After a long drink she sets the bottle on the counter and shakes her head
"Well I better go mom, I'm on the night shift tonight and I can't be late." Natalie says
"Yes I know mom... yeah I... ok bye." Natalie hangs up the phone with a long sigh.
"I didn't realise I had a new nickname." I say stepping into the kitchen and she jumps at my voice
"What?" She asks confused, her hand on her chest.
"Well the only thing you'll be on tonight is me so my new nick name must be night shift." I smirk and she laughs
"Thanks, I need a laugh, dinner is almost ready." She replies turning back to the food.
"Hey if you need to talk about it, I'm all ears." I shrug as I pull a beer from the refrigerator, she never opens up to me, but I can try
"My mom and I have a complicated relationship, I don't hear from her very often." She shrugs as she serves up the food, I take my plate and follow her into the dining room as we sit down to eat.
"She just wanted to tell me she's in Hawaii with Theodore and that he's going to propose any day now." She says dramatically before rolling her eyes.
"And that's a bad thing?" I ask confused
"It is when it's her ninth engagement and if she actually marries this one sixth husband. She is the original gold digger, boning old men for cash, jewellery, cars and vacations."
"Wow." Is all that I can get out
"Exactly." Nat sighs before throwing her wine back
"What about your dad?" I ask
"He ran out on my mom as soon as she peed on a stick and it turned out positive. She always blamed me for her being left alone, now she'll fuck anything with seven figures in the bank as long as he takes care of her in return." She's finally opening up to me and I don't know what the fuck to say, Evie would know what to say, she's good at the whole feelings shit after years of therapy.
"I never met my mom." I reply, because it's all I can think of
"Well you're welcome to mine, although you'll probably want me to take her back after a week." Nat huffs
"Sorry, that was a really insensitive thing to say, Anna just pisses me off. What happened to your mom?" She asks
"She died giving birth to me, my sister was four when she died, so she's told me the little she remembers and I still have a couple of pictures, but that's it." I shrug
"I'm so sorry, and here's me complaining about a phone call from my mom." She says reaching across the table to take my hand
"It's alright, I'm glad you told me." I shrug.
"Let's go put on a movie and not watch it." Nat smirks as we finish eating and I wrap my arm around her waist as I follow her to the couch.
