It's been two weeks since Socket and I started sleeping together again, and apart from my one slip up talking about my mom, we've been keeping it to just having fun.
The stitches are out of my face and it's almost healed, Dr Abbott is pretty sure it won't scar, but I'm not so sure. It's my day off and I managed to get in and out of the gym without running into John, I haven't seen or heard from him since thankfully, so I think it's safe to say he's in hiding.
"Auntie Nat!" Isla yells something that sound like she said that as I walk into the back yard of Ice and Immys house.
"Hey Nat." Imelda smiles as she pushes Isla on the swing set. She stops the swing and lifts Isla down before she runs over to me. She kisses my cheek, because she says it will 'fix my boo boo' and then wraps her little arms around my neck. I can't believe she's two already, it's gone so fast.
"Thank you for this, Isaak is so excited to be a part of this pregnancy." Imelda says as she sits in one of the recliners on the deck
"No problem, but I want to see pictures as soon as you get back." I smile. Imelda is having her first ultrasound today, I was with her for her first ultrasound of Isla, but now Ice is by her side.
"So what are we doing today princess? Fighting dragons? Robbing a bank?" I ask as I sit beside Imelda and pull Isla onto my lap
"I hope you don't mind but Evie was planning to bring Callum over for a play date on her day off, I forgot it was the same day as my appointment. I can call and cancel if you like?" She says
"It's fine, Evie drink wine? Because I'm happy to empty your wine cabinet while Callum and Isla entertain themselves." I smirk and she laughs. Isla and I wave off her mommy and daddy before heading into the living room to watch cartoons before her play date. I haven't really spent a lot of time with Evie, but I've seen her around, it's almost like she avoids me some times, but I think I know why.
"Hi." Evie says softly as I open the front door
"Come on in." I reply as I step back to let her through.
"Where's Imelda?" She asks as soon as I close the front door
"She's having her first ultrasound today." I reply "If you don't want to stay I get it."
"No, it's fine." She says more to herself than me. We take the kids out into the yard and they occupy themselves
"You want some wine?" I ask and she nods. I go to the kitchen and pour two glasses, then sit beside Evie on the deck as we watch the kids play
"Do you remember me?" She asks and I nod
"I'm sorry if I've been weird, I've been talking to my therapist about it and I don't want to upset you because I'm friends with Cordelia but not you." She says before taking a long drink of her wine
"You don't have to explain, it's my job, so I understand." I reply
"I remember Cordelia holding my hand but with you I remember..."
"I was the one who assisted on the rape kit." I add for her and she nods.
"I'm sorry." She whispers
"Listen Evie, what you survived is too fucked up to put into words and if I remind you of something you don't want to remember that is fine, it doesn't hurt my feelings and I understand. I help people at their worst, times they don't want to remember and my face is a reminder." I explain.
"But I got passed it with Cordelia, the first time I saw her I cried, but now we're friends. I would like to be friends with you too." She says
"You know Cordelia wanted to be there, while it was done, but she's been on the receiving end of one herself and she was scared she would freak out and upset you, so I took her place." I reply
"Thank you." She says as she finishes her wine.
"Screw this I think we need a bottle." I say as I stand up and she laughs. I grab the bottle from the kitchen and refill our glasses
"How are things with you and my brother?" She asks
"Can we go back to you avoiding me?" I groan and she laughs
"You've been seeing each other for a long time now, I was just curios." She shrugs
"We're not dating, it's just sex, he's a really nice guy and I have fun with him, but it's nothing more than that." I reply
"Well sometimes he puts on a front of being an asshole, but it's just an act, he's a good guy, just carries a lot on his shoulders." She explains.
"Well he's been nothing but a good guy to me, I was sorry to hear about your mom." I reply
"Yeah, it destroyed my dad, that's why he became an alcoholic, so I pretty much raised Socket, then when dad died Socket was 15 and I got custody of him, until it happened and then he was 17 and alone." She explains
"He didn't tell me all that, that sucks, I'm so sorry." I reply. We spend the afternoon talking and she seems to be more comfortable with me, unless that's all the wine we drank. Isla and Callum definitely had fun playing together.
"I'm getting married in two weeks, I would like it if you would come." She smiles
"Are you sure? You don't want me reminding you of that on your wedding day."
"I'm sure. Besides, if that hadn't happened Socket wouldn't have joined the club and I wouldn't have met Reaper." She shrugs "So you'll come?"
"I guess I better go buy a dress." I smile and she laughs.
"We're home!" Imelda calls as Isla runs across the yard to her mommy and daddy. Ice's face is lit up like his team just won the super bowl and Imelda has clearly been crying her 'happy tears'
"Tell me you have pictures." I say as I sit up
"Right here." Imelda says pulling the pictures from her purse
"Aww look at our little peanut." I smile
"You should've seen it, the baby moved and the heartbeat was so loud and strong, man it was awesome." Ice beams
"Aww look at Daddy all excited, super cute." I smile, he's such a good dad and soon to be husband.
"You staying for dinner?" Imelda asks
"Yeah sure, I don't have any plans." I shrug
"I should get home, I'm having family dinner." Evie smiles
"I'll see you soon." She says, and I'm sure she was going to hug me but changed her mind and went for a pat on the arm instead
"See you soon." I nod.
"What was that about?" Imelda asks quietly
"I'll explain while Ice Ice baby cooks for us." I smirk as Ice growls.
