Gerard’s POV

I glanced at Mikey as we walked home. He shot me a knowing look and I flipped him off, walking a little faster to get ahead of him. He ran a little to catch up.

“Gerard, you can’t do this to Frank,” Mikey said, panting slightly.

“I can and I will,” I growled. “Now shut up.”

I was sitting at my desk, working on my homework when I heard footsteps on the stairs. My bedroom is the basement; it’s nice and large and I have a TV and a couch, so Mikey and I often hang out down here.

I looked up and saw Mikey standing there. He shut the door behind him and walked over to me.

“Gerard-”

“Mikey, fuck off!”

“Gerard you like Frank, don’t you!”

I sighed and dropped my head into my hands after throwing my pencil down on the desk irritatedly.

“It’s not a crime, Gerard,” Mikey murmured, moving closer and putting his hand on my back.

“Yes it is,” I mumbled. “It’s a sin.”

“No it’s not. Look, why don’t you just join me in hell and admit you like him.”

“Join you in hell?” I looked up in confusion and Mikey grinned.

“Seventh grade. Mum and Dad didn’t tell you cause they were worried you’d do the same. I was Frank’s boyfriend for like a week. We kissed a couple times and I guess they found out somehow.”

I stared at Mikey, trying to process this new information.

“I’m bisexual, Gerard,” Mikey sighed. “I like guys and girls. I can’t help it. It’s how I was born.”

I watched as a tear rolled down his cheek. “Mum and Dad hate me because of it, but I can’t help it!”

I jumped up and pulled him into a hug, rubbing his back.

“Shh, it’s okay Mikey. I don’t hate you,” I murmured.

“Then why do you hate Frank?”

Ouch. I had no answer for that. Mikey pulled away from me and glared at me.

“Frank is one of the best friends you’ll ever have, but you’re not giving him a chance! You and him would be great together and I know he likes you a lot. Can’t you just suck up the idea that you’re probably gay or bi and just ignore Mum and Dad? They don’t matter! You’re fucking seventeen, Gerard, you’re out of here soon!”

I sighed and looked down, my eyes filling with tears.

“C’mon, join me in hell, it’ll be fun, we can build a little house and hang out with Frank and all the other gay dudes,” Mikey joked, shoving my shoulder. I grinned through the tears that were now flowing down my cheeks and he sighed.

“You need to talk to him.”

“I will. When it’s the right time,” I answered. “I promise.”

“When will the right time be?” Mikey asked suspiciously.

“Mikey....I don’t know. Look, that’s the best you’re gonna get, okay? Why don’t we watch a movie or something?”

“You’re changing the subject,” he accused, looking at me sideways.

“Yes. Yes, I am. Now if you don’t want to be down here, go away!”

Mikey walked off and flopped down on the couch, flicking the TV on and surfing through the channels. I tried to finish my homework, but found I couldn’t concentrate as all I could think about was Frank.

I sighed and threw my pencil at the wall in frustration, then got up and walked over to Mikey, falling onto the couch with a huge sigh. Mikey shot me a smirk and I flipped him off. He, very wisely, turned back to the TV.
