Gerard grabbed me and pulled me into his arms, sobbing already.

"Happy Birthday!" he choked out. I giggled and kissed his cheek, not wanting to let go of his neck.

"You sod!" I shouted. "You fucking bastard! You promised me you'd be back when you were eighteen!"

"I c-couldn't Frankie. I'm so sorry," he whispered, burying his face in my neck. I laughed and broke away from him, dragging him into the house.

"I love you," I murmured, tears running down my cheeks for the first time in about a year. I was suddenly little Frankie again and I loved it. Gee grinned and kissed my lips softly.

"I love you too."

I laced my fingers in his and ran into the kitchen. He trailed behind me, laughing at my excitement.

"MUM!" I screamed.

"For heaven's sake Frank, calm down," Mum said and turned around. She dropped a plate. Ray immediately ducked down to clean it up and Mum ran to Gerard, hugging him tightly. I laughed and pulled Gerard away from her and wrapped an arm around his waist, kissing his cheek. He was still crying and so was I.

"Frankie," he whispered.

"Yes baby?"

"I'm going to college and stuff...will you come with me?"

"Where to?"

"New York."

"Ah. As long as it's not past the ends of the Earth, cause I'll follow you there but no further," I smirked, shoving his chest.

"New York isn't even past the end of America," Patrick laughed.

I opened my eyes and felt warm for the first time in months. Gerard was curled up behind me, his body fitting perfectly into mine as he ran his fingertips up and down my bare arms. I rolled over in bed and looked him in the eyes.

"Gee, there's something you're not telling me," I stated. He blinked and kissed my nose.

"Mm?"

"Why won't you take your shirt off? I know you prefer to sleep without it."

"Don't worry about it, Frankie," Gee murmured dismissively.

"But I want to!"

He sighed and looked away. "I don't want it to upset you."

"Try me."

Gee gave in and slipped his shirt off over his head, turning his back to face me. I gasped at the long whip welts trailing down his pale skin. I ran my fingers over them and he shivered.

"Babe," I whispered. "Who did this to you?"

"My parents. My dad, mostly. They kept hitting me, telling me to admit you- my love for you, was a mistake. I wouldn't. I refused to call it a sin. They did the same to Mikey once. But they didn't keep on hitting him. They stopped after a week. He broke down. He said it was a mistake, but I wouldn't let them do that to me. To you."

Gerard was crying. I could tell. I grabbed his shoulder and flipped him over, kissing his lips softly.

"I love you so much, I'm sorry," I murmured.

"I love you too."

I wrapped my arms around him and cuddled into him, kissing his neck softly.

"I'm not letting you go again," Gerard murmured.

"I'm not letting you go either," I smiled, pecking his lips. "So you're stuck with me, sorry."

He laughed and kissed my forehead.

"Sleep, Frankie."

I fell asleep again feeling safe and happy.
