The rest of the week was hell. I couldn’t go out anymore, I was too scared...after everything. I just wanted to hug my boyfriend, I wanted to see him, I wanted to talk to him. The most I ever saw of him anymore was maybe him walking into school or around town.

“Frank?” Mum called.

“Yes Mum?”

“Can you run down to the store and get me some milk?”

“Can I take the car?” I asked, my heart beating slightly faster.

“Sure.”

“Okay.”

I walked to the front door, slipped Gerard’s hoodie over my head, then grabbed Mum’s keys and walked to the car. I got in and started it, backing out of the driveway and turning left. There was a little convenience store a couple roads down, next to the park.

I left the car parked by the road and got out, shutting the door and shoving the keys into my pocket. I glanced down the road and froze in shock. Parked in the lot for the park was Gerard’s old, beaten-up SUV. I sighed and looked away, slipping into the store. I walked straight to the back, my steps slow. I kept my head down, hoping no one would notice me, no one would point out my horrible face. My hands went to my cheeks and I covered my scars without thinking about it. I had reached the fridges full of milk when I felt someone grab my arm. I yelped as I was dragged into the bathroom and shoved away. I didn’t look up; I didn’t want the person to see my face. But I was pinned against the wall and I saw a flash of hazel eyes as Gerard crashed his lips to mine. I smiled into the kiss, slipping my hands into his hair.

“I love you,” he gasped, breaking away briefly and kissing me again before I could answer him. I giggled and pushed him away, then grabbed him and hugged him tightly. He buried his face in my shoulder and heaved a long sigh.

“I miss you so much,” I murmured.

“I know, I miss you too.”

“It’s only been a week,” I chuckled, tears pouring down my cheeks.

“Mikey’s been moping,” Gerard stated, pulling away and kissing my nose. I smiled and kissed him softly, then laid my head on his shoulder. He rocked me back and forth lightly, his arms slung around my waist.

“I’m going to get in so much trouble for this,” he breathed.

“Don’t think about that right now,” I murmured, stroking his cheek. Glistening tears were still dripping off his chin, so I wiped them away and kissed his forehead.

“I love you, Gerard,” I whispered.

“I love you too, Frankie babe. We should start meeting up here. No one will know. We can see each other, we can talk a little.”

“Okay, I’d love that,” I smiled.

“I know you would,” Gerard grinned, kissing my jaw and hugging me close. I laid my head on his chest and began to sob.

“Shh, don’t cry honey, don’t cry,” Gee soothed, rubbing my back. “What’s wrong?”

“I just want you! Why is this so hard? And I’m scared! People stare at me all the time and I’m sick of it!”

Gerard let go of me and sat down on the grubby floor. I pulled my sleeves down over my hands slightly and sat next to him, leaning into his shoulder as his arm slipped around my waist.

“I know, Frankie,” he whispered, kissing my cheek. “I mean, I know what you’re talking about. I don’t really know what it’s like.”

I shot him a sideways look and shrugged.

“People stare at you.”

“Not in the same way,” he said softly. “Just remember, whatever happens, I’ll still love you.”

I was about to ask him about the drawing with the wedding rings when the shop owner walked in.

“Boys, I don’t know what you’re doing in here, but you’d better get out and either buy something or leave,” he said. “Or I’ll call the police.”

“Sorry sir,” Gerard said, standing up and helping me off the floor. “I’m not allowed to see my boyfriend anymore, so I when I spotted him I needed to talk to him.”

The man’s face broke into a smile and he shoved Gee’s shoulder gently.

“Sneaking around, hmmm? I used to do that with my boyfriend. My parents weren’t all that supportive.”

“My parents have threatened to move away,” Gerard nodded sadly, wrapping his arm around my waist again.

“Well, if you need a place to hang out and be safe, you can start coming into the back room here. I know what it’s like. I’m engaged now,” the man beamed. He wasn’t much taller than me, to be honest, and had long, shoulder-length scraggly black hair that got in his eyes a lot. He was usually quite well-dressed and smiled a lot, illuminating his washed-out green eyes.

We thanked him and he smiled again, walking out of the bathroom. Gerard kissed me softly, turning me to face him.

“I love you. I’ll see you tomorrow, maybe?”

“Yes,” I smiled, stroking his cheek. I wiped my eyes and watched him leave. I waited a few minutes, then slipped out. Gerard was gone. I grabbed a carton of milk and walked to the counter.

“I’m Kellin, what’s your name, kid?” the shop owner asked.

“Frank. And that was Gerard,” I answered, handing over the money.

“Nice. What happened to your face, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Glasgow smile,” I muttered. His eyes widened.

“Oh my God! Why?”

“Because I’m gay,” I sighed. Kellin leaned across the counter and rubbed my shoulder.

“I’m sorry hon.”

The bell on the door jingled and I heard a loud laugh.

“Flirting with my students, Kellin?”

It was Mr. Fuentes. Kellin looked up and chuckled.

“No Vic, you idiot. He looked upset,” he answered.

“I know, babe. Frank’s had a hard time.”

Vic walked over and shoved my shoulder gently.

“You okay, son?”

“Y-yes sir,” I stuttered.

“No need to call me sir outside of school. Vic will do,” Vic smiled.

“Caught this kid with his boyfriend in my bathroom,” Kellin announced. Vic raised an eyebrow and I blushed.

“Just be careful, Frank. I don’t want you to lose Gerard.”

“I won’t,” I mumbled.

“Anyway, we should let you get home,” Kellin cut in cheerfully. “Stop by anytime you want!”

“Thanks Kellin, Vic,” I smiled, turning around and heading out of the store. I glanced back and saw them kissing over the counter as I walked to the car. I smiled and set the milk by the feet of the passenger seat, then got in behind the wheel. They made a cute couple and I hoped me and Gee could be like that one day. I sighed and started the car, still daydreaming about Gerard.
