I walked back downstairs and thought about the marriage. I am happy for them. Even though it took a long time for this to get me used to it, I think they will be happy. Actually, I don't think, I know they will be happy. I walked into the living room and I saw Laila standing up.
"Um, Mommy! I thought you said that her back needs to heal for a few days before she can start to walk again?" I asked in worry. I ran towards Laila and begged her to sit back down.
"Laila, c' mon. Please sit back down!" I pleaded with hope that she will listen to me.
"I am fine Sakina! I can do it!" Laila said with confidence. It had been such a long time since Laila had talked to me. It was like one month since we had talked. I am just happy that I can finally talk to Laila again. Even if Laila shows an attitude, I am still thankful that she is here and can walk again.
"Sakina, did you show Abbas to his room?" Mommy asked while bringing a cup of water to Laila.
"Yes, mommy," I said while getting a snack. I sat down back on the couch and started to eat my Oreos. I felt someone was watching me and my stomach churned with worry.
"BOO!" Abbas screamed while I jumped off the couch spilling all my Oreos on the floor.
"Ya Allah!! Why did you do that for? You scared me!" I said in a startled voice. I looked at him. He was laughing away with that annoying face of his.
"It really isn't funny! I am going to take revenge and we will see how you feel!" I said in a villainy voice.
"Right, like a little ant can scare me," He said with finality.
"Ya Allah is that a snake? Mommy!"
"AHHH! Where?" Abbas screamed as he flew on top of the couch.
"Huh! Not scared of an ant? I doubt that chicken!" I walked away and laughed. Abbas looked at Laila. She was walking a few steps at a time. She was wobbling.
"Laila! Be careful!" Abbas yelled as Laila fell onto the hardwood floor.
"I am okay! I am just a little rusty. Let me remind you that I haven't walked in a month genius!" Laila said she held the couch arm for balance.
"Yea, you're right. These are your first steps toddler Laila," Abbas said as he laughed.
Laila threw a pillow at him, "As if you're the first person to walk on Earth," Laila laughed and sat on the couch and fell asleep. I wondered if it must be tiring trying to teach yourself how to walk the second time in your life. I walked towards Laila and comforted her by putting a blanket on her and kissing her forehead. I looked back at Abbas, he was smiling and crying (I think).
"What happened?" I whispered softly. I sat next to him and gave him some tissues.
"I wish my sister was still here. She died from cancer," He sniffled while taking a thousand more tissues.
"Oh. You don't need to feel left out. I am you little sissy and you always have me, big brother," I gave him a hug.
"The past can make you cry," I said and ate another Oreo. I was stuck in thought.
"You are seriously going to get diabetes type two! Stop eating so much sugar products," Abbas said while nudging my shoulder.
"Hah! Like I will listen to you!" I stuffed my mouth with more Oreos, "Mmm, yummy!"
