Chapter 8 : Learning Curves

The lunch rush at Cafe Universe had just started. Kat balanced a full tray as she walked behind Chase. She handed out food and refiled drinks and went to the back to grab the next order.

"I'll take the order for table six. Do you think you can handle taking table nine's order?" Chase asked her grabbing three plate off the line.

"Yeah," Kat said taking a deep breath. She turned to walk over to the table and smiled.

"Welcome to Cafe Universe, my name is Kat and I will be your server today. Can I start you off with a drink?" she asked politely. The girl smiled at her and folded her menu.

"I will have a lemon water," the girl told her.

"And are you ready to order or would you like a few minutes?" Kat asked her.

"Can you give me a minute?" the girl asked. Kat nodded her head and walked away to get her a lemon water. Kat walked up to Sehun who was in charge of drinks that day.

"Lemon water, please," she said.

"So how is your first solo going?" he asked handing her the drink.

"So far so good," she said. She took the drink and returned to the girls table. When she got to the table the girl was not alone. Kat froze when she saw Luhan sitting with the girl.

"Here is your lemon water. Are you ready to order or do you need some more time?" she asked placing the water on the table and taking out her notepad.

"I think we're ready," the girl said. " I would like the mushroom porridge." Kat smiled and turned to Luhan who was grinning.

"And for you sir?" she asked trying not to show how nervous she was. He clicked his tongue and looked at the menu. After a minute he looked up.

"Bowl of ramen and a coke," he said and handed her their menus. She smiled and walked away. She dropped off the order and went in the back to the manager's office. Xiumin looked up and gave her a puzzled look.

"Is everything okay?" he asked.

"I just wanted to tell you Luhan is here," she said pointing behind her to the table. Xiumin walked over to the kitchen door and looked out.

"Has he done anything?" he asked her.

"No. He just ordered food," she told him. "Do you know who the girl is with him?"

"No. I've never seen her before. Just treat him like any other guest and if he tries anything tell me or Chen," he told her. "I'm going to have him take over for Chase so he can keep an eye on him." Kat nodded her head and went back to waiting on tables.

"Emma you will never guess who is in the cafe right now," she said, reaching out to Emma.

"Santa Clause?" Emma asked with a giggle.

"I could handle Santa Clause," she told her. She walked up to the table with Luhan and the girl.

"Can I get you a refill on your drinks?" she asked smiling. Luhan nodded his head and turned towards the girl.

"Yes please," the girls said. She looked a little uncomfortable. Kat quickly brought them fresh drinks.

"Here you go. And your food will be right out," she said. She went to leave when Luhan grabbed her wrist. She turned to him and looked down at her wrist. She gently pulled her arm and he tightened his grip.

"Is there something you need sir?" she asked.

"Where's you friend Emma?" he asked.

"She's not working right now," she told him.
