Kenny's POV

My mom tells me that we were having dinner with another family tonight. That family being the Divirons... Cayley's family... Maybe I can clear things up with her. We walked over to her place with me leading the way. I knock on the door and she answers the door. She's in lavender sundress and she looks so beautiful.

"Hello! Please come in." She said letting us in.

I walk beside her and we start talking. She sits us down at the table with a chandelier hanging over it.

"My mom is in the kitchen. She should be out soon." She said and walks into the kitchen.

Cayley's POV

I walk into the kitchen to help my mom. My mom walks out with a couple of steaks and sets them carefully on the table. She thanks them for joining us. I sit down next to Kenny and begin to eat. After dinner, mom made me go into the kitchen and bring out the cheesecake I have been baking. As we ate dessert, my mom brought up the worst topic ever, love. They talk about young love, dating, and marriage. My mom laughs at a statement Kenny's mom made.

"My daughter, Cayley, hates love." She says.

I didn't hate the word love. Those are two words that I don't believe in, hate and love.

"Mom. I don't hate love, I just don't believe in it." I say.

She laughs again as well as Kenny's parents.

"Mom, may Kenny and I be excused?" I asked.

She nodded and we went into my room. I sigh at the conversation my mom brought up. I sat on my bed, but quickly fell to lie down.

"Kenny, do you know why I don't believe in love?" I asked.

He shook his head. I quickly sat up again.

"Okay. I'm gonna tell you something I've NEVER told anyone. Not even my mom knows." I said.

He nods and I sigh.

"When I was 9, my dad cheated on my mom. He was caught and they planned a divorce. This caused me to stop believing in love. I thought that love was supposed to last forever. Everything I thought about love was wrong. I enclosed myself from any contact of it. I don't want to suffer the same thing my mom went through." I sighed.

He looked at me with sympathy.

"Do you know why I know how it feels like to have a life like yours?" I asked.

He shook his head again.

"I originally lived with my dad and his girlfriend. After the divorce, my dad became an alcoholic and got fired from his job. He never found work again causing us to have financial problems. His girlfriend blamed me, thinking that I was the cause of this. She would beat me up, let me starve, and let me bleed. She would abuse me every time I tried to defend myself. So, I start wearing this scarf, so that everything I said would be muffled and couldn't be understood. I still have a scar she gave me. I had to save as much food as I could. My dad sent me over to my mom, thinking it would be best for me." I said.

I looked at him and gave him a small smile. The next thing he did surprised me.

Kenny's POV

I felt so sorry for her. I maybe poor, but others made her stop believing in something that she believed in so much. Not to mention, she was badly abused. I felt like I could trust her since she trusted me with all of this information. I pulled down my hood and let her take a good look at me. She was surprised. She blushed.

Cayley's POV

I blushed as he took off his hood. He has bright iris blue eyes and messy blonde hair. He...is....cute..

"Told you one day you might find out." He smiled.

His smile..is adorable.. It made my heart flutter. Oh no. Please don't tell me. Am I really....? No! Cayley! How many times do you have to tell yourself this?!

"Honey, the McCormicks are leaving now. Come down and say bye." My mom said opening my door, but Kenny quickly pulled up his hood before she got to catch a glimpse of him.

I walked Kenny outside.

"So, I'll see you at school." I said with a smile.

"You're secrets are safe with me." He muffled.

I gave him a hug and thanked him. I closed the door and kept the image of Kenny in my mind. Cayley, what the heck did you get yourself into?
