I woke on Saturday morning with a start. I looked around the room in bewilderment, unsure of where I was. I focused in on that strange fairy art piece in the corner of the room. I lay back down on the soft bed and allowed the memories to wash over me. I had never moved or even traveled much before. Though my family had the ability to do so, my parents never wanted to leave the company for too long. God forbid someone slipped up and an accident happened, right guys. Why couldn't they just be happy with what they had, was our house, our neighborhood, was I not enough for them?
As I walked down the hallway to the bathroom I laughed to myself at the fact that I was the only one up. I supposed Roberto, who I met last night was already at his office. I almost didn't believe it when he told me he was a lawyer. The only lawyers I had met were the cold, and emotionless ones who occasionally represented my parents' company. Roberto was far from emotionless, like his sons he possessed a contagious laugh that he used often.
I walked into the bathroom and hopped into the shower, sighing at the relief that the warm water brought to my tense muscles. It was amazing how easily this family had accepted me, they treated me like a long lost cousin or child come home. I turned the water off and stepped out onto the blue bathmat, grabbing my fluffy towel to ward off the chill. Just as I was pulling out my toothbrush the door started to swing open. I hadn't bothered to lock the door with the knowledge that I was the only one awake. In my panicked state, I walked backwards, and just as the door opened to reveal the hallway, I tripped over the lip of the bathtub and fell into the small puddle of water left by my shower. Praying to all the gods above that it was Gloria who stumbled in I looked up at the door frame. I figured that someone up there really had it in for me because when I looked up I met a pair of piercing green eyes filled with shock. "Oh-I-uh-s-sor-ry." If I myself wasn't so embarrassed I would have laughed at the look on his face. "I, um, didn't think anyone was awake," I said flushing, as I felt his eyes travel up and down the length of my body. Sebastion seemed to come to his senses after that and quickly averted his eyes to the floor. "Are you ok? I mean I'd help you up but," by the time he reached the end of his sentence he managed to give a small smirk. "Yup I'm fine j-just a clumsy moment," I said while trying to force the blood from my face. "Alright, well, I'm just going to go wait outside then, maybe repeat knock first in my head a couple of thousand times," he said with a small chuckle. I also laughed, maybe it was the sheer ridiculousness of the situation, or maybe just nerves, but before I knew it I was practically in hysterics. Thankfully instead of calling the number of the nearest insane asylum Sebastion also started laughing. "Ok, we should shut up before we wake your family up, and I need to put some clothes on," I said once I managed to catch my breath. I was surprised to see a faint blush rise in Sebastion's cheeks at my last comment. After he left I sunk to the bathtub floor. The encounter itself was completely innocent, and even the fact that he was sort of checking me out wasn't as bothersome as the excited feeling that arose when I thought about it. Oh god, these stupid hormones.
After finishing my morning routine I walked straight back to my room as to avoid another encounter with a certain male in the house. Looking at the clock I saw that it was only seven and there was no way that I was coming out of this room without the moral support of other people there besides me. To kill time I decided to call Annalise who I had been non stop texting with since my departure. "Hi Anna," I said bracing myself for the onslaught of words I was soon to receive. "Mare you are in soooo much trouble" how was it that one person's voice could manage to be so annoying yet so soothing? "I know I'm the worst," I said to appease her. "Yes you are, spill, now." I proceeded to tell her the whole story from the explosion to my hot new housemates. "Wow" she said in disbelief. "Yup that pretty much sums it up," I said with a wry smile on my face. "I'm so sorry about your parents, I never thought-" I cut her off before she could finish, "Look Anna you know I love you, but can we please talk about anything, ANYTHING else," I begged. "Of course we can. Sooo these boys are they cute?" I felt the smile worm it's way onto my face. We had been friends forever, and hopefully, always will be. "Yes Anna, they are, especially Sebastion. Anna, you would die. He looks just like Harry Potter," I realize most think that crushing on a teenage wizard is absurd at my age, but a true Potterhead like Anna and me would get it. "Ok you will call me every day with an update-" hang on Anna, I cut her off when I heard Gloria call my name, I turned to the clock to see that we had been talking for over an hour. "I'll call you later, but I've got to go, love you" "Back at you babe" and with that my piece of home was gone.
As I walked down the stairs I was engulfed with the smell of eggs and food frying. "Oh Marie good your awake," Gloria said. As I expected she was not the one taking charge of the stove this morning, instead, Sebastion was at the stove flipping pancakes. He cooked, Annalise was going. to. die. "Yup, I'm usually an early riser actually." I pointedly avoided looking at Sebastion as I said this. "Oh good, Sebastion needs someone to keep him company," she said, oblivious to the effect her words had on my blood pressure. "Mhmm that will be nice won't it hun," she called to Sebastion, who seemed to be focusing especially hard on his pancakes. "Yup, that'll be great," he replied as he set the food on the table and sat down. The rest of the meal was spent in relative comfort, we were all pretty busy stuffing our faces with the food. I did notice that Ben kept looking at me strangely. It was making me freak out a little bit, to be honest. What if he liked me, that would be an issue. I had been so focused on keeping my own feelings in check that I never stopped to think about what would happen if one of the boys was attracted to me.
"Marie," Ben said as we cleared the table, "Yes Ben?" "Could I talk to you for a second? Umm, alone," I started to panic just a little. "Sure, just give me a second," I murmured. We walked into the back hall and by this time I was on the brink of having a panic attack, again. "You like him, right?" I stared at Ben, opened mouth as shock and horror filled me. "I um, w-well, how could you tell?" I managed to stutter out. "Well the sexual tension at breakfast wasn't helping anything," he said with a chuckle. "Don't worry I won't tell anyone, I get it, I mean if I wasn't related to him," to say I was confused would be putting in lightly. "You mean are you-" "Gay, yup ever since seeing Harry Potter Five. Is that going to be an issue?" He acted like he didn't care, but I could see the worry and insecurity lurking there. "Of course not, I was just scared that you brought me back here to kiss me," I said with a nervous chuckle. "As long as you're an HP fan we should get along great." A slow smile spread across Ben's face, "You thought that I wanted to kiss you, I mean you're hot and I can totally see why my brother couldn't keep his eyes off you when you first got here but-" Wait what, HE couldn't keep his eyes off ME? "What do you mean?" I questioned. "He's totally into you, but you get that nothing can happen here, right?" "Of course I do, it's just a stupid crush, we'll get over it." He nodded at me and said, "Well I say that after all that we need a good game of soccer, you down?" "Hell yes," I said with a smile, I'd never had a brother, but I think I could see the appeal.
