Selena was really quiet as we walked to her car. I wanted to ask her what was wrong but I didn't want to push her. As a result, we ended up driving in silence I took the last sip of the water bottle she'd handed me back at the cemetery. I started to feel so sleepy, I figured it couldn't hurt to rest my eyes for a few seconds. God, I didn't remember jet lag being this bad.
When I woke up I immediately knew something was wrong. My head was pounding, my hands were tied behind me, and I was in an unfamiliar place. It was dark and dingey, there were cheap lights in the ceiling but they did little to ward off the darkness. I sat up straight and fought to clear my head, the last thing I remembered was Selena taking me- oh god, I'd been kidnapped.
I heard footsteps approaching and immediately snapped my eyes closed letting my head fall to the side. I heard the door creak open and the heavy footsteps get closer. Judging by the sound of the steps I wasn't going to get out of this one using physical strength. I fought to keep my body limp, the fear running through my veins was making me want to stiffen.
"You can open your eyes, I know you're awake." I snapped my eyes open and accessed the man in front of me. He was tall, light-skinned, dark-haired. He looked to be approaching middle age, but was treating his body well. His frame towered over mine, his sheer mass explained the loud footsteps I'd heard in the hallway. He had brown eyes that bordered on black that made me feel like I was looking into a never-ending pit.
He could have passed for a Wallstreet businessman with his tailored suit and Rolex watch but the malicious look in his eyes made my primal instincts make an appearance. I felt the hairs on my neck stand up and my body was practically quivering with the adrenaline running through my veins.
"What the hell do you want." I asked. I was a little surprised at my own bravery. It looked like the guy in front of me was to, he looked mad as hell. You know what, I don't think it was bravery, more like stupidity. Despite my body's plead to run I held his glare with an unwavering stare, to my surprise he broke eye contact first. I realized soon that it was only so he could get something. He shoved a paper under my nose, it looked to be an email of some sorts.
King, we can't do this anymore, we have enough to keep us afloat. Let us have a clean break or you'll never get that collateral.

"This is why. You're here because your fucking parents are double-crossing pieces of shit that should have stuck to what they knew." It took everything in me not to punch him, he was lucky that I needed to get this information.
"So my parents were working for you, what does that have to do with me?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. The man who I supposed was King brought up a chair and sat in front of me.
"Your parents decided that they were going to hide some of my product away-"
"That's a nice euphemism," I interrupted, earning myself a glare that sent shivers of fear down my spine.
"You're lucky I need you alive girl." I unconsciously shrunk back in my chair at his words. Seemingly satisfied with my discomfort he continued. "They stowed it away somewhere to give them leverage. It was supposed to give them a free pass out. The worst part is that it would have worked, unfortunately, your parents went and get themselves blown up on the same day they were supposed to shut down the operation." I felt pain stab my heart at the reminder of my parents' death. "The only person who can link me to that stuff is standing right in front of me." I felt my mouth open in shock.
"I didn't even know my parents' were mixed up in this until a few months ago." He rolled his eyes at me.
"Please, it was obvious that their company was failing, you were living with drug ringers you had to have known."
