Stupid Green Eyes

Nope, nope, absolutely not.  I was not going to start crushing on someone who I was expected to live with.  This was not some cliche rom-com where forbidden love is filled with lust and excitement.  This is real life, where I could lose my only chance at normalcy through a stupid school girl crush.  Damn those stupid green eyes.

I thought back to my short encounter with the two brothers.  After the brief introduction, they had rushed off to some unknown destination.  Gloria had profusely apologized for their behavior, but I laughed, I was happy that they weren't going to act weird around me.  It didn't hurt that they were both insanely good looking, especially Sebastion and his emerald green eyes-  nope Marie, you are not allowed to go there.  I flopped down on the bed in my new room that Gloria had prepared for me.  I was immensely thankful when she had left me to unpack, I think we both needed some time to process the day's events.

I pulled myself from my thoughts so that I could observe the room around me.  Gloria had told me that this used to be the guest bedroom and I had expected a generic room with beige walls.  I was pleasantly surprised when I observed the light blue walls, complemented by dark wooden furniture, and grey curtains covering a large window.  There were some prints hanging around, and I was intrigued by one painting that depicted lifelike fairies playing with a squirrel.  The looks of mischief on their faces was not unlike the look that both her sons displayed.

After unpacking I headed downstairs, the house itself was lovely.  Unlike my house that was always kept spotless by our maid, this one had a certain lived-in quality that I liked.  The walls were all painted with cheery colors, and the furniture was old but looked comfortable.  As I wandered around the house I soon found the kitchen where Gloria was cooking, or attempting to cook something in a large pan.  There was smoke coming from the oven and as Gloria opened it up, still oblivious to my presence, she swore with veracity I had only heard from my mother when she spiraled into a rage.  Suddenly I could see the reasoning behind the friendship, those two could out swear a ship of sailors.  I laughed to myself and Gloria's head whipped around to face me. "OH, Marie!  I didn't see you- I- well- ohh no" Gloria's rambling was cut off as the smoke alarm soon started to blare. "Gloria, let me get the pan, you get the alarm," I said with a smile on my face.  Before we hired Albert, our chef, my mom had set our smoke alarm blaring several times, and by now I knew the drill.  I went over to the oven and grabbed a pan of what looked like the remains of lasagna and put it on a wire rack to cool off.  Meanwhile, Gloria had managed to shut off the smoke alarm.  Just as we had finished Gloria made to apologize needlessly, but was quickly interrupted. "Marie I'm so sorr-" she started but soon the front door flew open, revealing her sons, covered in mud.  Upon observing the scene they both burst into laughter. "M-mom you did it ag-gain" Ben managed to stutter out.  Pretty soon I had started laughing too, and it didn't take long for Gloria to follow suit.  The boys had sufficiently broken the tension, and I couldn't help but notice the way Sebastion's black hair fell in his green eyes, that were sparkling with laughter.

After the whole lasagna debacle, Gloria decided to order pizza.  Ben who seemed to be the more outspoken of the brothers was still chuckling when Gloria recognized the fact that they were covered with mud. "Ben, Sebastion, have you two been tracking mud all over the house yet again" she cried, her voice growing steadily louder with each word.  The smirks suddenly disappeared from both of the boys' faces, and I wanted to laugh at the matching looks of fear on the boys' faces.  Ben looked over at Sebastion and they seemed to come to some unspoken agreement. "W-well you see, we heard all the commotion, and so we wanted to see what was going o-" Sebastion started only to be cut off by Gloria "and you couldn't bother to, I don't know, maybe wipe off your disgusting feet! That mat out there is not just for decoration.  Both of you go clean yourselves up, and then the mess you two made." I couldn't help it, the look on their faces reminded me of two adorable puppies caught tearing up the couch, I let out a small chuckle, and all three of them whipped their heads around to face me.  Gloria looked bemused, Ben looked amused, but it was Sebastion's expression that gave me pause.  He was staring at me very intently and I could feel my cheeks begin to heat up.  Never being one to back away from confrontation, I met his intense stare with what I hoped to be an equally unreadable one.  We held eye contact for what felt like an hour before he broke it. "Sorry mom we'll go wash up before dinner."  She looked at him approvingly before ushering them out as I willed the flush from my cheeks.  Why god, why me?
