"How much longer?" Maddy questioned the two guards who were guiding us to our rooms. The guards didn't answer her and Maddy being stubborn  kept questioning them. On the other hand, I couldn't help but get carried away by Joel's scent. As much as I tried, I was completely lost into my thoughts about him.

"Why aren't you speaking now, cat got your tongue?" Maddy snarked smirking. I shot her a downcast look, trying to stop her from pre-digging our graves. Her consistent remarks must have worked because the guards stopped walking and turned around towards us.

"Finally, someone heard me" Maddy said giving Alec a once over.

"I assume you haven't been disciplined as a child." Alec said pulling Maddy towards him. In our sixteen years of friendship, this was the first time Maddy was speechless. She was just a inch away from Alec, their stance looking oddly... perfect. Maddy and Alec's eyes met were focused on each other making my gaze almost automatically fit to Joel. He was staring at me continuously and had shot me a wicked look. I lowered my gaze in response and looked at Maddy and Alec again just in time to see the fight ensue.

Alec slowly starting to clench his hand around Maddy's wrist which made her hiss in pain and pin his hand behind his back. He tightened his hand around her wrist and threw her across the hall in the blink of an eye.

With a snarl Maddy landed in a crouch after doing a couple of back flips. I hummed, impressed right before I rushed to her side.

"Maddy, stop. No."

I tried snapping her out of the trance she was in - her power fighting to be used on the idiot. She looked at me, her pitch black eyes fading to its topaz as she calmed herself down. I glanced at the two males on the other side, to see them glaring at us: Joel's hand on Alec's shoulder. Black mist danced at Alec's fingertips as the numbing vapor surrounded his arms - he was pissed.

"I do not know how regulations are at your time," Joel started. "but in this era, you are to be seen and not heard. The sooner you understand, the easier it will be for us all."

"I don't give a flying fuck about your 'era'." Maddy snarled. "I don't have a king - I don't follow any ruler. I don't care who you are, you have absolutely no right to tell me what to do. If you even consider acting like a bitch and thinking I will comply, I will turn you to ash."

"I am not afraid of you." Alec glared.

"Well neither am I." Maddy smirked as the pair stood glaring at each other.

"Enough. Let us lead them to their chambers. We are required." Joel said turning around and walking forward. Alec and Joel were leading us once again and we trailed behind them, lost in our own thoughts. Maddy was muttering to herself as she glared at the back of Alec's head. My eyes fell on the small cracks around her wrist where she was gripped and the crack at the back of her head from the fall. Seeing Maddy hurt and us being controlled by the Volturi, I felt that my decision of coming here was more than iffy.

We came to a fork in the corridor as we walked on. The two stopped and turned to us with matching stoic faces - Alec's more malicious than Joel's.

"You, follow me." Alec said, tipping his head to the side lightly towards the left side of the corridor. Maddy and I exchanged quick glances before she rolled her eyes and responded with a haughty "Fine".

Maddy and I departed our ways as Joel walked the opposite way with me on his heels. I walked a couple of steps behind him, trying to avoid his line of wrath and stay in his good graces untill we leave. His gift could be anything - and I didn't want to experience it first hand. He must have a powerful gift to be among the highest ranks.

I looked him over a couple of times when he wasn't looking, just to see what I was in for. His scent had an odd effect on me, it made me want to pull him closer though it somehow calmed me altogether. After much walking, we arrived to a room. Joel pushed open the door and entered. It was a huge chamber that had his scent all over it.

Joel walked towards a drawer and started to look for something as I walked further inside the chamber exploring the depths of the wonderful room. A large bookcase decorated the left wall and was lined with hundreds of books with covers that were different shades of brown. There was a large chest on one side - containing his clothes maybe - and another door that led to the bathroom, i think.

"Is this your room?" I asked. Twirling around and glancing at the painted ceiling that had intricate images of angels and flowers.

"Yes, it is" He said, turning towards me, his tone soft.

"So... I am supposed to stay here?" I asked, frowning a bit. Not because I was disappointed with sharing a room, but because I was nervous about it.

"Yes"

"That's cool..." I muttered as Joel walked closer to me - pulling me against him, his arms winding around my waist. His orbs burned into mine making an unusual emotion blossom in my chest. I opened my mouth to protest, but he shushed me as his fingers tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. 'mate' he breathed, his eyes fluttering shut as he took a deep breath.

I was frozen in my shoes at the intimate contact - I honestly didn't know how to respond to it, given the fact that I have never been interested in a guy like that.

Our beautiful moment was, unfortunately, disturbed by a loud bang that came from outside. The sound made my jump slightly which broke Joel out of his trance; his eyes snapping open with a frustrated scowl. He was halfway across the room in the blink of an eye as he sorted through the large chest and pulled out a key.

"What's wrong." I asked, moving closer to him.

"Nothing." he replied moving towards the door and pulling it open. He turned around and glared at me before sneering, "Don't leave my chamber."

I was shocked for a couple of seconds, wondering if the moments prior were just a dream. I snapped out of it and rushed to the door to open it and go reach Maddy, but he had locked the door. I raised my fist and brought it down on the door a couple of times; trying to break down the door, but the dumb piece of wood refused to budge.

"Get me out of here! Is anyone there?" I screamt, but no one came for help. I turned my back to the door and sunk down on my knees, thinking how Maddy would be and hoping that she had nothing to do with the horrific sounds from outside.
