" Time is slow for those who wait,
fast for those who are afraid,
long for those who lament,
short for those who celebrate,
but for those who love, time is eternal. "
It's been over six hundred years since I last saw Maddelyn. Time dragged on slowly, seeming as if it had barely moved in the last six centuries. I still remember the day they left as if it were yesterday.
"No, no, no. . ." Maddelyn muttered as her eyes met that of Carlisle Cullen. Her gaze was distant, as if she was reliving an old memory. Series of possible events ran through my mind as I wondered what could have made her react this way. Was he an abusive relative? Or an old lover perhaps?
I would have voiced my opinion if she hadn't ran out of the room. My gaze fell on Antoinette who walked over to Aro, placing her hand in his before she scurried out - after them possibly.
"Do you know them, dear friend?" Aro asked him, making him shake his head.
"I have never met them in my life." Carlisle admitted, eyeing the door they left through, suspiciously.
My gaze narrowed in doubt at his words. Why would they react as such? My eyes widened at a possible thought that crossed my mind - what if they knew him in the future?
Unfortunately, all my assumptions had come to a halt at a sudden pain shocked me out of my reverie. It faded, leaving an empty void in my chest - similar to the ones I felt everytime I heard Maddelyn's cries of pain from the torture sessions.
Antoinette burst through the doors, breathing heavily as she uttered three words that shattered me from the inside,
"They are gone."
Of course after that day, I was never the same again. I spent each day regretting my behavior towards the one person who meant the most to me. Mates are supposed to be there for each other, care and support their other half till death - but I had done neither. There was a time I had become suicidal: wishing nothing more than to end my life. What was my purpose now that my mate is gone?
I spent days in solitude, wondering what my life would've been like if she was by my side. Most of the times, I could hear her voice speaking to me, her warmth radiating close or her scent wrapping around me.
My eyes fell on the small glass doll in my hands. A smile ghosted my face as I picturised her again.
"Alec. . ." She giggled, as I closed my eyes imagining her body against mine.
"If you keep pouting like that, your face will freeze into a permanent scowl." I sighed, imagining her tease me.
"I love you. . ." Her voice spoke, and pain filled my chest. All of this was imagination - she would never utter those words to me.
"Brother, master summons us." Jane spoke from the doorway, making me sigh.
"Let us not keep him waiting then." I nodded, walking after her towards the throne room.
We took our place near the thrones, standing idly. I honestly didn't care, since all these years had taken the fight out of me completely.
"Demetri, Felix. Please check on our guest." Aro muttered. I had barely picked up on what he had spoken, as I felt this unusual feeling in my chest. I brushed it off, listening to the footsteps across the castle. That must be it - I was just hungry.
"Jane, please see what is taking so long." Caius scowled as I felt the corner of my lips lift up. His anger never failed to amuse me.
"Alec. . ." A gruff voice spoke, and my gaze turned to the speaker.
"Don't loose yourself. . ." Marcus muttered before turning back on his throne. I nodded to myself feeling the words echo in my mind. He had told me this before, during my suicidal stage. I took a deep breath, hearing the footsteps approach as I walked down the steps, plastering a fake smirk on my face.
"Sister, they send you out to bring one." I teased. "But you bring back -"
My words got caught in my throat. My breathing stopped, and it felt like my heart had restarted at that point.
There she stood, in all her beauty.
She returned. My angel, returned.
Maddelyn was back.
