Song: Fingertip by Gfriend

(Y/N) didn't expect this to happen at all. Not on the first day, not even this year. (Y/N) was pretty, yes, but she wasn't someone that others would be attracted to. Accepting this fact, she anticipated being single for a long time, perhaps until she graduated college. One of the most handsome guys she'd ever seen, Choi Youngjae had unlimited choices. Yes, she was pretty, funny, smart, and kind, but as were so many others. The traits were so typical that a person who possess them wouldn't be anything special, but someone special was enamored with her. This fact alone emphasizes that there's something unique about her. The young woman convinced herself that "enamored" was an exaggeration, however she was still plagued by his feelings nonetheless. Through his status at school, it was constantly highlighted that Youngjae and all of his friends were unobtainable, and thus she never considered him having romantic feelings for her. The moment he confessed, the summer sunlight shining through a nearby window, was the only time she'd thought about her own feelings. Truthfully she didn't have any, but she was willing to have a boyfriend. Being a highschool relationship it would never last, but no matter how undeniable this fact was it wasn't a reason to abstain from dating. After all, isn't one relationship meant to last anyway? Youngjae is kind, talented, and handsome, so when considering that, alongside her earlier rationale, there was no reason not to date him. Thinking about him (Y/N)'s heartbeat quickened, heat rising to her face. Ignoring her newfound fluttery feelings she opted to focus on the upcoming day of school. Tonight she'd have to eat well and sleep well to be productive the next day.

"I have so many female friends, but none of them are comfortable with me~!" Yugyeom remembered his friends past complaints regarding his love life. Youngjae was always comfortable enough to engage with girls personally, but his reputation prevented that from ever becoming romantic. Happy for his friend, that's how he should feel. Youngjae finally found a girl that he could experience love with, and everyone should celebrate it. What was the feeling that overcame him yesterday? It had to have been heartburn, because there's no way he could feel anything other than elated for his best friend. Wracking his brain on his way to school, his mind found itself focused on (Y/N). Not on (Y/N) as Youngjae's girlfriend, but as a person. She was approachable and funny. In English they'd talked about what sports they'd be doing and how she plays softball in the spring. The star of the baseball team, Yugyeom was elated. She urged him to join the dance team with her in the winter. He didn't want to leave her side, but Youngjae..doesn't want to either and since she feels the same way that makes them a couple. Yugyeom should be happy that he gets to be friends with her. 'Friends with (Y/N)' thinking about that didn't satisfy him at all, in fact it made his heart hurt. 'Bestfriends with (Y/N), then. I'll make sure to get extra close to her then.' Yugyeom was desperate to deny his feelings for (Y/N), no, for Youngjae's girlfriend. Thinking of her this way would make it easier, surely.

Soon his friends found him and distracted him until class, but he hadn't planned out what he would do at lunch. Neither had (Y/N). She had friends of her own that she could eat lunch with, but there were also Youngjae's. She was only invited to eat with them yesterday, so she should go where she's wanted. (Y/N) jumped when an arm landed on her shoulder. Turning around she was met with Bambam, who was completely unaware of her discomfort. "Wassup? It's hot as hell outside so we're eating in the history room today." Without a chance to protest (Y/N) was ushered to a history classroom by Bambam. Everyone acted just like they did yesterday, but Youngjae was the target of special harassment. Holding (Y/N)'s hand, he was teased relentlessly about his new girlfriend, causing not only the two of them to shyly withdraw, but Yugyeom as well. He'd been doing well until then, not a second had gone by where he'd thought about Youngjae's girlfriend in a way he shouldn't have, but now that the topic of conversation wouldn't change he was leaning against a wall as far back as possible. Embarrassed, (Y/N) was looking around the room in an attempt to hide her shame. It was then that she saw Yugyeom. He sat on the window sill his back to the wall and side to the window. Slouched posture, his eyes were aimed toward the floor. (Y/N) left Youngjae's side and moved to Yugyeom's. He made room for her and helped her onto the sill next to him. "What's wrong?" She pulled her knees up to her chest and leaned forward, trying to see his face clearly. "Nothing! I'm ok." With the look on her (Y/N)'s face she obviously wasn't buying it. "I just ate too fast, so I'm a little sick." "Do you need me to take you to the nurse?" Her posture changed entirely, ready to take care of him. "No, no, I'm ok. You're here with me right now so, I'm happy!" She smiled brightly to him and relaxed again. With her shoulder right next to him, he wanted to rest his head there, to be held by her. 'Just a hug wouldn't hurt, right? But a hug has to stop, and I won't want it to. How am I supposed to only see her as Youngjae's girlfriend, when she's here with me like this?' Noting the change in his demeanor, (Y/N) pinched his cheeks. "I know your stomach hurts...cheer up Yugy!" The room had never quieted down, but it felt like it was only the two of them, at least to Yugyeom.

After lunch he couldn't help but curse himself. He lacked any self control, and had no idea how he would make it through the year if he was tempted after only a day. Youngjae met her first, but did that make whatever it is that he feels less important? He eventually found himself in English class, and in an attempt to excercise some self control, he sat on the other side of the classroom. Across the room, (Y/N)'s face fell. The girl wasted no time in going to him. Deciding to use the sick charade as his excuse, Yugyeom put his head down on the desk. (Y/N) ran her hands through his hair. "Poor baby.." After being around the boys for two days she too had started treating him like the baby. With it having been normal for a year now, he didn't have any problem with it, Yugyeom in fact found himself enjoying it more when it was her. "I'll get you something for your stomach when school's over, ok?" He didn't say anything else, Yugyeom just nodded and leaned into her hand. He felt bad for letting (Y/N) buy him something when he wasn't even sick, but she insisted.

It's unhealthy and unattractive to compare yourself to others and Yugyeom knew that very well, nevertheless he had a habit of doing it. That night he couldn't help but constantly compare himself to Youngjae. Right now the girl who occupied Yugyeom's every thought was his, so there must be something Youngjae has that he doesn't. Youngjae is soft and kind, but so is he. Responsible with a cute way of showing affection, Youngjae's a perfect boyfriend. One of his bestfriends, Youngjae's always been there for him, loyal to him since middle school. If he could repress these feelings, Yugyeom would, but it's already been proven impossible, should the youngest continue ignoring his love it'll manifest into something he can't control. It wouldn't be fair to him for Youngjae to ask that of him. The dilemma he's actually faced with is whether or not to confess his feelings to his friend. The way things happened before wasn't fair for him, but it'd be just as wrong to pursue (Y/N) behind his friend's back. With shaking hands Yugyeom picked up his phone and tapped the number on his frequently contacted list. It was ten o'clock at night, but Youngjae picked up almost immediately. "Hey, how are you?.....That's good.....Youngjae, there's something I need to tell you...Don't be mad...I like (Y/N)."
