Song: Fine by Taeyeon
Though (Y/N)'s facial expression was deadpanned, her eyes held a fury never seen before by her classmates. The bubbly girl warned everyone to stay away from her with her standoffish body language. Though they wanted to ask their classmate what was wrong, she gave more than a hint that everyone should stay away. Thinking that he was granted some type of immunity, Youngjae approached her without caution.
"Baby, what's wrong? You look upset today." Suspicious about whether or not Youngjae actually didn't know what was wrong she didn't provide any details. "Ask Yugyeom."Her hands shook as they ran through Yugyeom's hair. "Why didn't you ask me first?" "It had only been a day and I didn't know I felt so strongly yet." "I'm not talking about that." (Y/N) gently clenched his hair. "Though that's another problem in itself. I mean why'd you make a deal with Youngjae before even talking to me?" "I couldn't go behind his back, Youngjae's my bestfriend." "I'm not saying you should've gone behind his back and done anything, I'm asking why my opinion wasn't considered first, when I'm the one directly involved." "I just wanted to start over. I wanted to get the same chance with you that Youngjae did." (Y/N) stood up, wanting to see his face. "No one gets to just start over. This is real life and Youngjae is my boyfriend. Now what am I supposed to do, Yugyeom?" "Please don't be mad." "..I'm not. I just want to know if you think this is fair to me." In that moment Yugyeom wasn't sure. This entire time he'd been concerned with how he'd navigate his feelings for (Y/N) in relation to Youngjae, but not in relation with her. "I should go. It's late and I have a long way home." "(Y/N), no, wait! I'm sorry I didn't think about the way you'd feel! Don't leave!" "I'll see you tomorrow, Yugyeom."
"That boy." Youngjae answered. "What did he do now? He's pretty touchy isn't he?" Laughing, he didn't notice the displeasure on his girlfriend's face. "Class is starting." Was all that (Y/N) had to say, letting Youngjae know that she wasn't interested in the conversation.
(Y/N) ended up becoming very close to Jinyoung via math class. None of his seven closest friends were in the class, leaving him relying on her if he should ever miss something. With it being the second week of school, it hadn't come to that yet, but they'd already planned it out. Though intimidated by her change in demeanor, the teacher nevertheless asked (Y/N) where Jinyoung was. Scanning the room she noticed he was absent. "No, I haven't sorry. Is there something I need to tell him?" "Yes, there is actually, I updated his syllabus like his parents requested, but I still need a signature for him to receive the credit." "Ok, I'll make sure it gets to him." (Y/N) and Jinyoung were both focused students so they never really spoke during instruction, but each other's company was really valuable to both of them. Even when they were working silently, it was a comfortable silence. The absence of her friend, coupled with her already foul mood made her day worse. The only highlight was when she visited Jinyoung that afternoon. With both of his parents at work, he welcomed her inside.
Jinyoung had a decently sized bedroom, though it was apparently the smallest since he was the youngest. Honors students, he and (Y/N) shared the same curriculum. Jinyoung asked him for a rundown of every class. (Y/N) has forgotten almost everything for the day and needed a refresher herself. Going to the school website, the young man downloaded and printed every assignment and example from the day. "This is going to ruin my system..." he muttered, rushing to reorganize his binder and folders. Initially she thought the young man to be sick, but seeing him move about so frantically made her seriously doubt that. "But Jinyoung, why weren't you at school today?" Tilting her head, she was genuinely lost. He's too productive to be sick, but he wouldn't miss school for any other reason. Suddenly her heart dropped at the possibility that he'd lost a loved one. "W-whatever it is, you should take it easy today and relax. You'll have no problem catching back up!" "It's just a cold. I don't need to relax, now that I think about it I should probably put a mask on since you're here. I'll be right back." He put one on and proceeded with what he was doing. "If you're sick you should rest, Jinyoung. School isn't that important." "That's disappointing, I expected more than that from you." Jinyoung didn't mean anything by it, but (Y/N) was still a bit hurt. "It's true! Good grades are important but they aren't more important than your health." "You wouldn't understand.." "Why wouldn't I?" Sighing Jinyoung occupied himself with his organization. "We're different. I'm not like any of the other guys in the group. I have something to prove." "Doesn't everyone?" "No. They don't have a dad who works two jobs and sisters who are barely older than them working to help pay the bills. The other guys aren't expected to be valedictorians and get a scholarship and become successful enough for the family to brag about." Jinyoung tensed up realizing the amount of information he'd revealed. It was surprisingly easy to talk when someone was actually listening. "Hm, maybe they do. I definitely get it. What do you like, Jinyoung?" "...I like acting...musicals.." there was a hint of fear in Jinyoung's voice, like he was saying something forbidden. "Why don't you try that?" "It can never work. You have to be impeccably talented, and even then it's not guaranteed." "Is anythi-" "Yes. If you go into the right field you're guaranteed stability, shelter, success." "Just not happiness, Right?" "Right.." "Then are you successful? Working until you die all to maintain a life you don't like doesn't sound like success to me." Jinyoung stopped moving, just thinking about what (Y/N) said. "Anyway, it'll take me a while to get home, so I should get going. Get well soon, ok?" "Oh, I'll walk you out." Watching her out, Jinyoung called out to her. "(Y/N)! Have a good day..!" Smiling she waved back. "Take care of yourself!" Typically Jinyoung would wish her a good day at school, or in her next class, but today he hoped she'd have a nice day, period. On the train back home was the first time she'd checked her phone that afternoon.

Yugyeom ran his hands through his hair, tossing it from side to side. It was stupid and selfish not to ask her beforehand. This entire time the young man had thought that he was unable to think of (Y/N) as just Youngjae's girlfriend, but that's exactly what he had done. Youngjae called again, only to be declined immediately. He had to wait for her to call back. While debating whether or not to call a fifth time, her name and face lit up his screen.
