The air was fresh, I could feel the wind running alone my lips. I looked up, the moon shining down on me as if it knew I was coming here at this certain time on this certain day. I knelt down and my bare knees touched the soft lush grass surrounding a cement tombstone with my mother’s name engraved on it; Elena Rose Mira

“Hi mum, I had a great day today. It would have been better if you were there, I miss you” I tear ran down my face as I rose to my feet after a few minutes of silence

I turned around and staring walking back when I heard the wind like I do every other night when I come to visit mum, well her grave anyway. I smiled and kept walking. Every time when I leave mum’s grave the wind howls through the trees, I get a feeling that mum is there looking at me.

The following day I awoke with a box at the end of my bed, I sat up and reached for the box. It was a silver box with a white ribbon that had a white bow at the top, a played with the box turning it to see if there was a card, there was no card. I opened the box and a silver bracelet was sitting on a plastic stand, I ran my finger over some engraved words, it had my name on it. Rose. Who sent me this? It wasn’t my birthday. I dismissed it and put the bracelet in my bag and went down stairs to the kitchen, I walked in and dad was standing at the counter looking very excited.

“Why are you so cheerful today?” I asked smiling at him

“I’m very proud of you Rose” dad had a piece of paper in his hand and held it up

This wasn’t sarcasm “what have I done?” I asked opening the fridge and pulling out the juice

“You, you have gotten good enough grades to move to Mark Davidson State High” dad beamed waiting for my reply

“Dad! You know I don’t want to go there” I got a glass out of the cupboard

“Too bad, you are going and that’s final! One more thing” dad put the paper on the bench

“What, do we have to move to Mark Davidson?” I poured the juice into the glass and started to drink it

“No, you are but I’m not. You’re going to board!”

“What? You not serious are you?” I slammed my cup down

“We’ll talk about this later, you’re already late for school missy” dad shooed me out of the kitchen like he did every morning

I got in the car and dad drove me to school, one of the places I hated the most.
