I slowly gain consciousness. I can tell I'm back in the pit, laying on the cold dirt. My head throbs and my cuts sting. I open my eyes and see Newt, Thomas, and the small chubby boy I saw before. I slowly sit up and yawn.
"Well, well, well. Good morning, Greenie." The chubby boy says.
The moment he calls me Greenie, I remember something.
Macie. My name.
I look up at the three boys. "My name's Macie. I remember my name! It's Macie!" I say quietly and first, but raise my voice to a shout with excitement.
"Macie. That's cute." Thomas replies.
I look over to Newt and smile. "Thank you."
"Why are you bloody thanking me?" He asks.
"Because you were there with me while I was being stitched. You made me feel safe."
"No problem, Macie." My name sounds weird as it rolls of Newt's tounge.
I look around the Glade. "What's happened while I was out?"
"Nothing much. The doors closed, they opened again. The usual." The chubby boy says. I look at him confused.
"Oh I totally forgot. Name's Chuck." He says happily.
"Hey Chuck." I reply. My stomach twists with hunger. "Do you have any food?" I ask.
Newt pulls out three containers. One with soup, the other water, the last with a unknown deep blue liquid swimming in it.
I reach my hands up to the bars separating me from the boys. I look down excitedly.
"They finally released me?" I ask. "I didn't even notice." I jerk my head back and forth looking at my free arms. My head throbs. I reach and touch the tender stitches.
Newt hands me the full container of soup. It's warm between my cold fingers. I sip the soup slowly, letting the hot liquid land in my stomach, filling my whole body with warmth. I ask for the water and I chug the whole thing.
"Here eat this." Newt gives me the container.
"What is this?" I ask, disgusted by the blue liquid.
"It's to help your head. You lost a lot of blood after you passed out." He pauses for a second. "I was afraid you wouldn't make it." He looks down at the ground.
"I'm a lot tougher than I look." I smile up at the three boys, then back to the liquid. I take a spoonful. It's actually not too bad. It's sweet, like berries and sugar. It reminds me of home, maybe my parents used to make it.
"Thanks for everything you've done. You guys make me feel like I belong. From what I've been through, I'm not welcome."
"Your welcome with us. We like you." Chuck says.
"Thanks guys."
I finish the rest of the blue liquid. It leaves a sweet taste in my mouth.
"Has Alby warmed up to the idea of letting me out of here?"
"No, but he talks about you all the time."
"Should I be concerned?" I ask them.
"Nah, just the usually. How much he bloody hate you." Newt responds.
I nod, of course.
All three of the boys stand by the pit.
"We have to go return these before Frypan misses them." Thomas says. "I'll see you tomorrow."
The others wave.
"Bye Macie. Have a good night." Newt smiles.
"Bye Newt. You too."
As the boys leave, I'm not too mad about being held captive by these boys. As long as I have people like Newt, Thomas, and Chuck. They are my life line, they make me happy. I don't know what I would do without them.
I lay down on my side and prepare to sleep. I stare at the stars and look for constellations. I slowly drift into a deep sleep.
