I try to control my breathing, but it doesn't work that well. Tears run down my face.
I hear the monster clicking closer to me. I'm terrified. I don't know what it is. A see a blob right in front of me. Protruding arms from all sides. It's ugly, but creepy looking.
"Goodbye, Newt. I'm sorry." I whisper. I shut my eyes tight and wait for the monster to charge at me.
Instead I hear the quiet distant noise. The monster went right past me. I sigh. I'm thankful. I smile a little to myself, but then I realize that this is just the beginning. There are many more hours before the doors open, releasing me back to the Glade...to Newt.
I gently wrestle the vines that secured me to the wall. I slowly look both ways. It's clear. I step out into the maze. I look up at the stars, the moon. I sigh again.
I walk away from the door. Either to my fate, or to my death. I peek around the corner and look for more of the monsters controlling the maze.
I see none. I walk slowly; being as quiet as I can. There's blood smeared on either side on me. It's a deep red. I wonder how long it's been there. How many died trying to escape this place. And I was about to become one of them. Nothing more than a blood stain on a rock wall.
I slowly walk around the corner. There's nothing there, but I shiver from fear.
I walk down another corridor and quickly round a corner.
I see my life flash before my eyes. One of the monsters is staring at me. It creaks and clicks, then stand still. I stand and stare at the monster. I'm terrified, I don't know what to do. All of a sudden, the monster charges at me.
It gets closer and closer. My feet won't move, I can't make them move. The monster is feet away from me. I eventually find the urge and run.
I run back towards the door. Then I realize, I'm trapped. I dive back into the hole I made in the wall before. The monster darts around the corner. I slides slowly, looking for me. Waiting to kill me.
Tears run down my face again. This was it. I was dead.
I don't hear the monster anymore, which confuses me. All of a sudden, I am grabbed out of my hole and thrown to the ground. The monster I almost on top of me.
I quickly grab a rock and thrown it at it, it doesn't do much, but it buys me some time. I get to my feet and run past the monster. It shrieks in pain. I round the corner from before and make another right turn. I hide around the corner and catch my breath. I panic. I don't know what to do. I've never encountered anything like this before.
I hear the creaking machine noise of the monster approaching.
I peek my eye around the corner and see how close it is. It's only a few feet away.
I weigh my options quickly. Do I run farther into the maze, but risk getting lost. Or do I run toward the monster and stay close to the doors, but risk dying.
I decide quickly. I dash toward the slug-like monster.
I have to stay close to the wall to avoid it's protruding arms, but I eventually make it past.
The monster roars in frustration. It can't turn around as fast as I can, which gives me some time to find my way back to the maze door. When I make it there, I think of an idea. I look up at the maze walls. I take a vine and pull it to test it's strength. I pull myself up. After a few feet, I look down towards the ground. I see the odd monster crawling around the corner. I climb faster.
As the monster comes closer, the high I am on the maze wall. It stops and looks around. It's looking for me.
It stands there for awhile, before it decides to give up and turn around and return to the inner windings of the maze. I rest a little bit to make sure it doesn't return. I take a deep breath and start to climb down.
I lose my footing and I fall. My life flashes before my eyes. I hit the ground hard. My sight turns black.
